I tend to dislike cutesy names and especially names with the word "wind" in it. I did see a graceful wooden sloop in bristol fashion named Fare Well. That one stuck with me. A friend has "Rapparee", an Irish soldier from the 17th century, which I like. My own boat is Trav'ler.

Walter Cronkite’s boat was named Assignment.
Whenever he was absent from the news broadcast, his fill-in would say his own name and then “Walter Cronkite is on Assignment.”

Our first boat was an old powerboat. Every time I bought a piece of equipment for that vessel my wife would ask, "Why did you buy that (anchor, set of boat fenders, new dock line, ect.)? My answer was always the same, "Oh, just for the Halibut!"

Most are fun, but do they make sense over the radio? Will they confuse the marina or the USCG? Realistically, in the past this would disqualify almost all of them. Now with cell phones, a little less. But I still believe it is an important test.

Can you repeat it three times and be understood?
Was once on a transit offshore from Beaufort SC to St. Mary's Georgia. Heard over the VHF fromthe USCG that a pleasure boat was in distress about 12 miles due east of my location. The name of the boat was "It's Going Down." Clever name but caused some confusion about the actual situation on the boat. I immediately turned east to go to the location but the USCG got there long before I could. Turns out it did sink but the USCG rescued the passengers before it went down.

Long time ago, a friend did a delivery on a 40 foot sailboat named (all caps, Germanic-looking font) "WOFTAM". Most of us surmised it was a sort of viking reference to some deity of the sea......
Turns out it was short for a "Waste of Fu__y Time and Money" !
:)

Our current boat name is understandable to those who recall SF rock music from the 60's.
"Fresh Air".

Another hint: our previous boat was named "Quicksilver".

I have not had to test these names in an actual emergency, but believe either one is a good "radio name" as well.
(As others point out, try saying it clearly three times on your VHF, while the water inside is over your ankles and rising fast.......)

We once owned a Hunter 23 named: "LIL' WASS ETT". I'm betting no one will figure out where that name came from!

(HINT: it's a ditty; I'll give you all a few days to think about it...)

My last boat was named Islay Mist which is a kind of scotch. Yes, I always kept a bottle on board. We named the dinghy Chaser.
