Does 2008 Hunter 45 CC have a screen in the fuel tank pick up tube.

Have surging issues from 2000 to 2500 and have had fuel polished and all filters replaced twice.

There was algae in the tank so was wondering if maybe a screen is clogged?

Not sure there is one but others might know for sure.
Algae probably got in there from moisture. I installed an H2Out desiccant filter to prevent moisture from getting in thru the vent. I have to rejuvenate the desiccant at least twice a season so it's working.

Just used that as a reference
If I go to 2900 it would surge down 400 to 500 RPM.

Ouch. It certainly seems as if it's A) starving for fuel or B) sucking air.

I'm not aware of any Hunters which had screens on the inlet but anything's possible until proven otherwise.

I would suggest, as the next step, to disconnect the fuel hose as far upstream as possible. Place the end of the hose in a partly enclosed container of clean diesel fuel (for safety concerns) and see what happens while under heavy load. This will eliminate the fuel tank from the equation.

You may have to do some experimenting with the size of the container as I have no idea how much fuel will flow during the time for the test. The size required will be burned fuel + recirculated cooling fuel.

Thanks!

We have checked all the lines and replaced all the filters. Not much left to check other than the actual pick up tube...

But that is a good idea with the auxillary tank option...

How did you check the fuel lines and fitting connections for air ingress ?

Are these original fuel lines ? If so, there just MIGHT be a blockage of algae somewhere.

50/50 as to whether to pull the fuel pickup tube or test for other problems in the suction hose using the Rube Goldberg auxillary tank method. Go with the easier inspection OR get technical and flip a coin.

I had this similar problem on my 280. So much goop in the tank that the pickup tube plugged up. This was with no screen on the tube. However mine the engine just quit. Took off the fuel line and couldn't get any fuel through it. Blew back into the tank with compressed air and lots of fuel came out of the fuel line. Built a polisher over the winter and removed the fuel gauge sending unit to access the tank. Had so much goop in there the intake hose for my polisher actually plugged up. Had to modify to a larger hose. I'll use my polisher every winter from now on since I don't really use a lot of fuel and I'm sure I'll get more water and goop in there.
