Cockpit table material

The table is made out of Corian.
I stand corrected. Difficult to be correct without being there.

Corian is a solid material so you "MAY" be able to refinish it similar to cut polishing fiberglass. Found this article:

How to Revitalize a Corian Countertop: Make It Shine Again! (housetrick.com)

for refinishing Corian. No guarantees as this is taken from the web.

You might want to try an edge to experiment with in case the process tries to destroy the surface. You may also want to look at refinishing fiberglass here in the SBO archives. If it works, I think you'll save a fortune as nothing in Corian is cheap.

Good luck with refinishing the tabletop.

Like Ralph stated…you “may” be able to refinish it…..
When we bought our 2000 340, new in January 2000 it came with a kit for the Corian Counter tops. It has a buffing pad and 2 small bottles of some “mystery“ chemicals. I’ve never used any of it in the past 22 years, but I remember being told it would clean and remove stains.
Now, if pressed to find it, that may be the real trick. Sitting here on my porch, I believe it’s under the galley sink. I’ll check in the next couple of days and get back.
We did have a marble mantle polished years ago after many decades of just sitting and absorbing fireplace residue. And it came out like new. The marble company did tell me Corian can be refinished also. Has to be cheaper than replacing it.

Thanks for the response - I may be able to locate the Corian cleaner here, but if you note the product you have, that could be really helpful.

We‘ll be on the boat tomorrow. My wife says it’s in the small cabinet behind the toilet, I say under the galley sink. Either way, it’s on the boat. Any bets as to who‘s right? Not me.
I’ll get some pictures and any information I can for you.

Yes, it was in the cabinet behind the toilet. It is also bigger than I remembered. And loaded with stuff. So I took photos of the instructions according to Corian and the stuff.
And lucky me…inside was a coupon for 25 cents off. It expired in 2001 and I’m left wondering how that got past us. All in all it’s not what I remembered but I did say we never used it in 22 years. But it will tell you how to care for your Corian tops.
This was fun to do and I hope it helps you out.

If anyone is still remembers any tricks I'm all ears.
When Screensaver was delivered the outside Corian table looked perfect, as per the attached.
15 years on, it has no scratches but I assumed a good clean and sort of treatment would restore it to its former glory.
But now:
1) anything including water will leave a stain and will not wipe off. Its like it has become absorbent.
2) It has lost its lust and deep colouring turning to a more washed out grey colour

Im not sure I see how all the polishing (sanding options) I see on the internet are either going to stop it absorbing anything, nor how it will bring back its former lust.

It is as if has suffered damage from the sun, ie UV or something and has somehow sort of bleached it or depleted some imbedded protection.
.
The reason i suggest this is if you look at attachment Table 1 you ca see the grey color it has become, however where there has been clear plastic on top (ie in the center) that was there to protect against scratching, you still see the original colour.

Does the community think polishing with bring back the original lust and colour

How can such action stop it being absorbent.

Open to idea's

You can probably restore the Corian, but its gonna take some work. Here's a video that shows the process as part of an effort to repair a scratch, but you can see that the after sanding the surface of the Corian in the video is markedly changed from its original - similar to what's happened to your Corian over time (but weathering and use versus the sandpaper). I'm guessing that after a good sand with progressively less aggressive sandpaper, and then a polish, it would probably come back. You could try in one spot with an orbital polisher and see what happens.

Here's an article with some better detail on how to refinish:

How to Refinish Corian Countertops: A Step-by-Step Guideline - AdvicerHome

One thought though - maybe inquire at some places that sell Corian countertops as to who can refinish/repair them. They're very common in home construction. I bet they can recommend someone who would do it for you, and if its a non-marine vendor I bet the cost would be pretty reasonable.

Good luck.
