He can dry shutting the pump off, open all faucets to release any pressure and trying to (air) pump up the accumulator tank to its intended static pressure which could be, say, 2 psi below the cut in pressure. After he does that, it he presses the Schraeder-type valve where he added air, and gets water out of it, then the tank is shot.

so what exactly do i need to be certain of before buying and installing a new pump----that the new pump works with my 12v electrical system, and that the in and out hose ports will fit with the existing hoses i have?

would you mind letting me know the model of Shurflo you purchased? Or if it wasn't a Shurflo, what it was you selected?
Sorry it took so long to get this information to you.
The replacement was a shurflo model 4238-121-E07, Blaster II, 12 volts, 7.5 amps, 3.5gpm (original pump was a Blaster 3901-2204)

Best bet is to find the same or similar pump from your current oem manufacturer. Key is to find a replacement with the same GPM rating, then check for inlet & outlet fitting size and orientation, and mounting provisions. As I mentioned previously, my new shurflo pump was pretty much the same as the oem model; therefore, simplifying the wiring & installation--"plug & play."
