We have a 2006 Hunter 45 CC with a SEA - FIRE Extinguisher in the Engine Room. Can anyone who has a similar system tell me how often this system needs maintenance, and or re-charging. Needless to say we have not has to use it since taking delivery of the boat.
Thanks,
Jeff

Here is a manual from their web site Sea-Fire Support

From the research I did in January, it will cost a fair buck to get the system cylinder upto date, you will end up having to purchase one of these FG 100A about $450.

When I purchased my new to me 2005 Hunter 46 last January I replaced the 14 year old Sea Fire FGA 123-295 50cf fire suppression bottle in the engine room as a safety precaution. According to Sea Fire, the FG model cylinders aren’t refillable regardless of size, require replacement in kind. The cost was $300 plus sales tax and $75 ground Hazmat (it’s considered a compressed gas cylinder even though mostly liquid agent) shipping from the east coast to San Francisco, CA. If you replace it the new one will come with a 14 gauge electrical pigtail to connect to the boat's shutdown circuit. The existing 16 gauge connector on the boat side will need to be cut off. The two ends need to be spliced together, typically with a butt connector. The connection needs to be weather proofed with heat shrink (installed in advance, and then melted in place). There is no polarity with the wires. It does not matter which wire goes to which wire according to Sea Fire.

Jeff,
My 2007 41DS would not start. Through help from this forum I found that there is a kill circuit in the fire suppression system that activated due to low bottle pressure. I eventually replaced the bottle as detailed by sail sfbay above. More info in my post thread. ( search for
Yanmar 4JH4E No Start).

I'm probably about to do exactly the same thing with my 2009 H36. Since I purchased the boat in 2018 the pressure gauge has always been slightly high into the red. Was the old bottle you replaced Halon? How did you dispose of the old bottle? Any additional advice beyond the excellent post you've already made on this thread for someone making this change?

Replaced with HFC 227ea (heptafluoropropane) agent. Halogn manufacture is banned by the US EPA. The fire suppression bottle supplier, where I purchased the new bottle, disposed the old one. When making the electrical connection refer to the "FG Connector" jpg file attached. Those instructions came from Sea Fire.

..............Also reached out to a "marine" fire extinguisher business in MD to determine if they sell Sea-Fire products (its about 45 minutes closer to me than Baltimore)...............
Maybe have them install it, unless you are electrically-inclined and can heat shrink or weather seal the connections, and dispose of the old one.
