The photo is just too perfect.
It is nearly impossible to catch that perfect moment when a granite starts to gobble down a Danforth for lunch.
It is one of those National Geographic photo moments.

Well done Tom.

Don’t forget when that 11’ tide rolls back in that anchor will sink the dink

on granite. Tucks right in.
If it's anything like my old Danforth, best to insert it with a five pound hammer and then MAYBE it'll hold.

Beautiful photo to frame and hang. Just something subtle in an inconspicuous place.

Yep, that is about the only way a danforth will hold. Danforth are like solar panels, the one that will do the job is too big and heavy to keep aboard.

So that's why they call it a lunch anchor?

That is exactly why they developed the Fortress, which is guarantied for life. Bend it and they send you a new fluke.

I think we're ..... veering into an anchor discussion. :yikes: Actually, I've used danforths for many years with great success. Largely due to the soft bottoms in places to anchor in my former sailing area. My father used one too, sometimes on the muddy bottoms around the South shore of LI and in the ocean in deeper water 80 -100', if I remember, with good success.:stir:

I thought danforth type (including fortress), when set, had the best holding power/weight ratio?

I poo pooed the Fortress being a fan of the weight on the bottom school. But early this year I was doing some RC work here and the flag boat had a Fortress. Being a newbie I was the anchor guy. It was a beautiful anchor. I would release it and it would sail forward to the bottom and catch right away. And it didn't break my back. I'm a fan now.
