DC Electric Panel Fuse Question

In our Oceanis 35.1, the cigarette lighter plug in the electric panel does not work. When I open the panel and check the wires for voltage with a meter I also get nothing. There is a 1A fuse that is blown. I will replace it but it obviously can not be the one for the plug (it should be a 10A or 15A at least). The documentation says nothing about the fuses in the back of the panel. Does anyone have a description for them, or could point to where I could find it? Many thanks.

Do you have a picture of the panel? On the 37 the plug is connected to a breaker on the panel, with no other fuse. The 1A fuse, if I remember right, is only for the panel backlight. But I don’t know if they still use the same panel on the 35.1.

Thank you so much for your quick answer ! Sadly I do not have a picture of the panel and am not on the boat right now. However, what you says makes eminent sense. I don't recall the panel lighting up, so that 1A fuse must be the culprit. I will change it and confirm. Will look for the 10A or 15A that must be hidden somewhere else (I also left the owner manual on the boat...)

Did you turn on ALL breakers to see if it works? Swap the lighter with the one in your car and see what works.

When was the last year that cars came with lighters? Our 2013 and 2014 Hondas didn't!
2018 Subaru’s do. Don’t think they’re easily swappable though.

In any case the OP said the wires in the back of the socket have no voltage, so swapping the plug likely won’t help.

Late model cars come with the 12V receptacles. These receptacles are not the same as the ones used for the push button lighters as they lack the release clips.

On my panel, it’s powered by the breaker labeled 12v.....

Thank you all. I see we’ve gone in branches too..

my cars also only have the socket we use mostly for usb adaptors.

As for the boat, I replaced the blown 1A fuse and that gave me light for the battery/water/fuel read out. It would still work when pushing the buttons. Now with the switch it stays on all the time.

I found the 15A fuse for the socket. Interestingly, it is fine. So I have no clue why it does not power up. I still have a usb charging port below it. I wanted to power a 3 way charger so nobody fights for it. I guess I will have to do more digging...

We use ours Occasionally to power a 12v tv. It would make sense to wire it to the 12 v, I think mine is labeled DC Outlets but it is not. Drives my wife crazy at the beginning of each season when she can’t get the tv to work. Mine in wired to the salon lights. I think it was wired from Beneteau that way.. follow Ron’s advise and try each breaker.

I installed this three seasons ago and it’s been working great. We use the 2.1’s for our cell phones and the 1A for our Bluetooth speakers

Do yourself a favor and do not fuse a 12V outlet at more than 7.5A. 10A can be pushing it on most of these..

How about with the Marinco Sealink 12V receptacle? It's rated at 15A.

I say this because I've tested piles of these outlets with FLIR imaging and 7.5A is what is safest and develops the least heat. 5A is even safer... I would not run any of them at 15A, not even the locking ones, especially after corrosion sets in or spring tension gets weaker over time. I also would never, ever suggest running a 30A shore power circuit at 100% of its "rating" but people do it and we have the boat fires and marina fires as a result.

The manual shows it with a 15A already. But I hear you...

A 12V receptacle operates in a circuit. The safe capacity will be dictated by the weakest link in that circuit. Old wiring and connectors may not offer today the power handling capacity they once had. Adding a new 12V receptacle may not necessarily restore its safe operating capacity

Thanks. Just to confirm. I am not planning on adding anything. There’s a 12v receptacle that’s currently not working. I have located the 15A fuse (per the manual) and it is operational. Why there is no DC power in the receptacle is what is currently driving me crazy...
