I'm a racing rules guy. But Paul was a RULES GUY'S RULES GUY. Never met a person so versed, so deeply in tune with the nuances of the RRS.
So in honor, here is gist of the last rules discussion I had with Paul.
Boat X fouls you, and you immediately fly your protest flag and call 'PROTEST'. They hear you and do their correct turn(s). Do you then take down your flag? Cite relevant rule (OK its 61.1) and explanation for why you think so.
