Why not make it right the first time??? Test the estimate with a length of string before buying/cutting the rope. There could be variations, like how long the foot of the sail is, and where you sheet it to, such as mid- cockpit or all the way to the transom, then maybe forward to the winches. Go to the SBO store on this site, they have a calculator that you enter your boat in and it will tell you the length for your boat. Then buy the line from the SBO storeIs there a formal for measuring sheet length for a cruising spinnaker ? 28 ft boat, 40 ft mast.
