Is there a formal for measuring sheet length for a cruising spinnaker ? 28 ft boat, 40 ft mast.

I think the standard is 2x boat length. So you’d be looking at about 60’.

Why not make it right the first time??? Test the estimate with a length of string before buying/cutting the rope. There could be variations, like how long the foot of the sail is, and where you sheet it to, such as mid- cockpit or all the way to the transom, then maybe forward to the winches. Usually, if the rope is cut to a certain length, you can not return it for a refund.

Go to the SBO store on this site, they have a calculator that you enter your boat in and it will tell you the length for your boat. Then buy the line from the SBO store:)

I think the standard is 2x boat length.
That is the rule of thumb.
If you believe a rigger that writes for Sail Magazine, here is his call on the "Rules of Thumb for running rigging.
It is the same that I have heard through the years. Works and sometimes yields a few tails you can use for Fender Ties.
