Anyone know where to source these
OK....do you call these jam cleats???
Thanks
Yes, that is the most common name.... a type of horn cleat that has a "pincher" base on one side. I have one on my boom for the clew reef line.... very streamlined and efficient. You can the open horn side to secure the tail when used with a winch as a sheet cleat. For the reef line, or any control line or halyard for that matter, the "jam" side faces the load source... the open cleat side faces away. You can hook the tail around the open end and "sweat" the line between cleat and load.... pull the slack in around the horn and snap the line into the pincher to hold fast. Finally, slap on a half hitch over the open end horn to secure things. On my boom, to keep the line positioned and secure, the tail is threaded through a hole in the base of the cleat and secured with a stopper knot.

I have been on a few boats that use them as sheet cleats and was surprised at how efficient and easy they were. The term "jam cleat" is often used for other types of cleats with non moving parts... such as the "vee"cleat, the "clam" cleat.... and so on... but to me the horn style jam cleat the original. The one below was available at West Marine.

That's a small bolt pattern. Have you tried the Beneteau's Syselios site?

Learn something everyday. Jam cleat new to me, but seems to serve a purpose. No need for one here, but must work for certain applications.

How big do you need.....
Schaefer aluminum open based cleat available in 5 in. or 6 in. lengths. The 5 in. cleat fits a maximum line diameter of 3/8 in. and measures 13/16 in. H, while the 6 in. holds 5/8 in. maximum diameter line and measures 1-1/8 in. H.
