hey everyone, I'm redoing my interior wood, I was thinking about using lemon oil instead of teak oil for it's mildew killing property, I've never used lemon oil before, how does it compare to teak oil, application wise and finish?

Fred , you should do a search on refinishing interior teak because there are a lot of opinions and suggestions on the subject. I wish I could remember what we use. It's the admiral's department. I can almost see the bottle.

Fred. There are many paths to a beautiful boat interior. An like many other things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes Lemon Oil can be used. Not sure about any "Great" mildew preventing properties. Likely will be softer surface and while aromatic providing a lemon scent to the cabin, will not last as long as teak oil. It would be a lot easier to apply and can be reapplied without much prep. (My wife uses lemon oil on our living room table. Maybe once a month. Looks great.)

My experiences are different. Oiled surfaces attract dust and dust attracts moisture. This provides a favorable environment for mold and mildew.
When you seal the surface with varnish, it is much easier to keep it clean and "shiny".

I've used lemon oil on my unfinished teak interior pieces for years-floor boards and steps into cabin.
I have had zero problems
I think y’all need to do a comparison test. Fortunately my boat is available and plenty of surface area to test with. I’ll take one for the team.

A little. I've been thinking of putting a lemon tree in and now its an ear worm.
I have one- it's currently loaded- far more than I can use. Also have an orange tree I'm asking people to pick from- it's covered
Now if you have a lime for my coconut you could call me in the morning and I’ll tell you what to do.
I have two lemon trees... both in large pots. At the moment they are in my kitchen. When the blossoms bloom, the entire house smells GREAT! A trick a friend taught me to get a large lemon "crop" (and it works) is to use a small paint brush and brush over the blossoms to help with pollination.
