Seriously, if varnishing, I try to get to four coats before laziness strikes again. Actually 7 really is better. Sand with 400 between the final coats.

That brings up memories. In high school JROTC varsity drill team we used to hand rub the gunstocks of our M1 Garands with linseed oil until they glowed before a competition.I'm up to 4 coats now, it doesn't seem to build up like teak oil does so far
No way for it to "build up" as it has an acidic oil and some solvent. This would tend to disolve the existing coat before adding a layer. I would think. Teak oil has not worked in the same way for me. And the lemon oil is much lighter in consistency = less to build up.it doesn't seem to build up like teak oil does so far
