Capta- I'm with you. Just an old fogey I guess, but started sailing in the 1950's and the boats from that era are what I consider lovely. Like my 1961 Rhodes design

My father commissioned Clark Mills to build his first and second 65' head boats to fish out of Clearwater Florida, circa 1967. He believes his boats, the Double Eagle and Double Eagle II, were the very first powered catamarans licensed by the coast guard to carry passengers. The Anderson family in Panama City sees it a little different.
Most people who had an opinion, thought they would fold up in the center and not float. Clark refused to design the first one because it was too new a concept. He designed the number II. At the time, there was no boat faster, running out of the Tampa Bay area. Even the Point Swift, the coast guard 82' and their 40 footers couldn't keep up. they were planing hulls running on twin 671 turbo diesels. I think I remember 28 knots as the top end.

Considering the size of them, their wakes were small but not inconsequential. I think cat design has come a long way since then.

Almost all ‘inverted bow’ boats have reverse shears. It just looks better.

Jackdaw - sorry, but what do you mean by "reverse shears"?

‘Shear’ is the NA term for the elevation-view curve of the deck line. Most traditional boats have a moderate or slight bow to them.. a traditional shear. Many modern boats have no shear, it’s a straight line. Reverse bow boats often have reverse shear, meaning the deck curves UP. I think every boat posted here has that.

Unless the traditional boat has a hogged shear. Then it just looks like a reverse shear.

Watching this video is interesting. While they promote the boat as a planing cruiser, the vid shows how hard that really is. In perfect planing conditions with a spinnaker up, the boat never jumps onto a plane. Only for a second down the face of a wave does it pop; which they cleverly chose as their key frame for the YouTube video. Still, kinda a cool boat.

Maybe becasue of the OB still in the water, mast raising crutch still in place or perhaps the deployed bumpers? And extra crew....

I'm putting it down to the boat being quite a bit heavier in build than the designer guesstimated. Happens all the time. The Catalina 275 was supposed to weight 4500. It ended up weighing 5500.

Isn't that the USS Merrimack? One of the first ironclad built during the Civil War?
They've painted her, but really, looks the same as she always had.

$4.4 Billion, partially because the buy went from 32 down to 3 hulls. This also meant that rounds for the 155mm gun are very close to S1m each.
