Beautiful job Will!! Is that wood possibly beech? Kinda looks like it could also be white oak.
Spanish Red Cedar.

It has good contrast for burning, the grain has good character and finishes up quite beautifully.

Are those all by the same artist. That is some real talent there. I love those paintings. The curves in boats are very hard to get right.

Multiple Artists. I ended up buying a Giclée from the artist that did the dinghies. Waiting on the frame to be done. It will be going on the boat to replace a tacky tourist print that is on-board now.

Almost bought one of these last weekend at our local marine flea market. They were carved out of bamboo stumps.

Those are so cool. It would be hard to resist those. Bamboo stands up well to a marine environment too.

The artist who did the dinghies is seriously talented. Their art may be really valuable some day, if not already. Best I've seen in a long time.

I was torn. The carvings were only $35, but I had already spent hundreds on boat stuff at the flea market, and had just bought the dinghy painting the week before. Hopefully he will be back for the flea market next year.

I'll try to post a picture of the painting we bought when it gets back from the framers. It was more tropical than those I took pictures of.

View attachment 145798 I just finished this hatch board project and wanted to show out off. I'm particularly proud of it as one of my most ambitious. The hatch boards measure about 24" by 24" over all.
Please post your art or art that amazes you.

Nice work Will! I thought of trying my hand at wood burning but I don't think I have the patience or talent.:waycool:

The only art I know much about...
Sailboat are works of art and I think every sailboat owner had some sense of their boat also being an expression of their own artistic sense.
I am surprised, however, at how little modern boat owners embellish their own boats.
I have seen lots and lots of examples of homes, barns, front doors, lawns and gardens with amazing art added to express the owner's sense of artistry, yet there are so few examples of such additions to boats. Clever names seem to be the furthest most people take it.

By the way, the friendship sloop is, in my opinion, about as beautiful as a sailboat can get.

Here is a painting my parents have hanging over their fireplace. It came out of my grandmother's house, I think it was bought by my father's step-father from a street artist in Spain ny the name Guillermo Gomez Gil. It is a favorite in the family and my older brother had already laid claim to it as part of his inheritance, when the time comes.

The light on the wet sand is amazing.

I hope your boat is OK now?
Thanks for asking, Larry. We suffered some superficial damage in the marina, mostly due to the boat on our port side breaking its mooring line and banging into us. Interestingly, lost some electronics (AIS transponder), our 100# fisherman anchor jumped out of its bracket and gouged the deck, some bright work gouged up, and a few little things here and there - surprising how it adds up! Otherwise, we were pretty well prepared.

The new picture is very nice!

It helps me to forget for a moment that it is 13 F outside and it is only Ground Hog’s Day!

Thank you for posting. Beautiful painting and a great design on the frame.
You know, even tacky tourist art speaks to people because great art should tell a story. Tourist art has a story.
