Is our media ever right?

I don't know, maybe the boats were the marine equivalent of the Ford Pinto, just bursting into flames spontaneously upon collisions.

Glad they pointed out the baby ducks fleeing though. :what:

on fire and the occupants jump in the water, and it drifted over where it could spread to other boats.
Seems to be a common attitude in America these days; as long as I'm OK, it doesn't matter what happens to anybody else.

Having not been there, and this 3rd hand information, I dunno. I just seem to notice how off the news folks seem to be.

Hope the original owner of the boat had insurance. That is going to cost big time. I feel bad for those that lost boats. Especially those that put a lot of work into the boat.

Hmm, the story is already gone. There's one about some naked guy on a boat shooting a rifle at the cops ... y'all already know how it ends though.

Print news media has always been more about entertainment. That's why I stopped reading it long ago, gives me more time for the important things in life, like this forum.

The story goes a boat came into the marina, hit another boat and fire broke out sinking 4 and damaging one more.
The way the marina is laid out it would take two ninety degree turns to get into that fairway. Not a high-speed area.

I stopped reading newspapers 15 years ago. I moved and didn't re-start the papers. After a while I noticed that I had much more equanimity. I haven't gone back.

I wouldn't go that far to generalize, but I will say that I somewhat agree. But even more so all around the world. We seem to be more for us than for the good of others.

Now, none of use were there to witness the event. There seems to be no video, just reports. We will never know the truth because the media never follows up on stories. There is no profit there. Not sure which Ferengi Rule of Acquisition that falls under.

Drone video, complete with arrival of fire boat and initially what appear to be civilians with dock fire hoses. Then firefighters.
Also civilians rescuing a neighboring sailboat.
American civilians.

I do remember once the media was right, more or less.

But, I'm glad the baby ducks were OK - that's what's important.

Like others, I'm struggling to conceive a scenario where a fire would break out just from one boat colliding with another in a marina. Let's say the one which was struck had the BBQ grill lit, and the collision managed to knock it over and spill fire onto the deck. I suppose eventually that could spread.

Another possibility, I suppose, might be an electrical fire started by a short in the shore power as a result of the collision, or some variation of that. Otherwise, if there was fuel and spark involved, seems like a collision by the front of one vessel into the stern of another would initiate any of these scenarios. Makes one go "hmmmm".

Thanks for the post but, if that was my boat those civilians were rescuing, I wouldn't care where they were from. I'd owe them all a ton of gratitude and a cold beer, for starters.

Thanks Skipper,
The done video appears to support the info I got from a friend with a boat on C dock across the waterway from the boats on fire.
A boat caught fire on the way into their slip. They then collided with boats in the marina on D dock. The fire then spread to other boats.
My friends boat was spared as the breeze carried the fire away from C Dock.
Fire at a marina is never a fun experience.
Fortunately no one was seriously injured.
No ducklings were found harmed in this event.
Any one going to check their fire extinguishers cert dates? Maybe shake the retardant up? I am. Again.

Me 2. :)
The line was a subtle rebut to some previous America-bashing in the thread.

Thanks for the video, Skipper. Can't get away from anything with drone and cell phone cameras.

I can, aging gasoline-powered cruiser tubs poorly maintained by their owners, and carrying +500 gallons of fuel. We have a couple of them blow up in the middle bay every year. Usually at the fuel dock. I would move my boat if someone slipped a gas boat next to me.
