In this era of instant information, misinformation, disinformation and corporate cuts to newsrooms everywhere the burden to sort out the best approximation of truth falls on the consumer. An active consumer of news has to learn to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Bashing the press is the current fashion, but the United States of America founding fathers thought enough of the fourth estate that they were included in the first amendment. Those who refuse to believe in a "free press/media" even with its faults now likely will be really be upset with the alternative in a couple years.
