Uncledom the world is getting smaller and homogenized. I feel the same way but with college and university students competing on teams around the world, citizenship doesn't seem to disqualify any of them. Same for the pro teams here in the US. Cheers for New Zealand for getting their boat and crew running hot. They must know something about trim.

For the record, I'm not criticizing the sailors or their abilities. The win is the win and congratulations to them. It's the rules over all I don't agree with. It should be treated like a country sponsored event in which only countrymen can compete per yacht. It's too commercialized and buying talent should be a no go.
I think NL cheated. The guys on the bicycles were actually working the magnetohydrodynamic drive that was in each hull. Of course it was invisible and undetecable, but none the less it was there.

I was very disappointed.
How many of your fellow boaters have stationary bikes, an airplane wing, & adjustable foils so as to keep hulls dry & sail @ 40 MPH?
Let alone crash helmets, shoulder, elbow & knee pads.
If I wanted to see the Indy 500, I wouldn't be watching the Cup races.
The governing body did a real "Shoot the Pooch" on this one.
I wouldn't mind if they added these one design boats as a separate class from the rag hanging boats.
In this way, it would appeal to a much broader range group.

Regardless of your position on these boats and crew racing for the "cup" you have to admit watching a wind powered vessel going over 50 mph is pretty cool! Did you notice the chase boats? They had four outboards on the back to try to keep up with the sailboats. They should use these kind of boats in the next around the world race to see what the new record would be. No need to go into the roaring 40's as much lower wind speed will still get you there mighty quick. Let's say they average 30 for daily runs of 720. Should take less than 40 days for around the world. Imagine going from Miami to Puerto Rico in a day and a half.
Lets make it a real rich guys race series - Series #1 - Monohulls, Series #2 - Flying Cats, Series #3 - Trihulls all using the same crews!!!

I don't think any crew could keep up with the physical demands of the boat for that long!
To be fair, how many boaters in the 30's had 120 foot J class yachts, or winged keels in the early 80s?
I am with Davidasailor26 on this one. I am not sure what will trickle down to us, but I am looking forward to it. The rules were a bit crazy but it was a great competition.
They are the cutting edge. When a team figures out an advantage, they run away with it for a while: wing keels?
All these elements will eventually factor in our boats. Racing develops, and the market adopts. One day, we will have stable, foiling cruisers.

Pray, tell, doesth one thinketh sir foil will grace itself upon thy monohull? Get real. There are no technologies on these rocket ships that will find their way to monohulls, save maybe the sails, or wings, or whatever they are called.
However, someone mentioned a race around the world on these rockets. Now that would be interesting. They really can't safely fly with wind above, what, 20knts? And I'd like to see then handle 10 ft seas. LOL

They are so fast they could follow a 20 knot wind pattern all around the world. Not saying these exact boats would make the journey but a larger foiling cat might. You'll need hydraulics powered by a generator not human power of course and a cabin for eating and sleeping.
I wonder if Ellison will challenge for the cup again? Bermuda seemed like a great location but NZ had a great spot last time the cup was there also.

Odds Fish, Man! Thou art Too Late. There are plenty of monohulls with foils. Yes, they are still racing yachts, but the tech is spreading. VOR has lifting foils on 70 ft yachts. Gunboat sells a foiling cat. There is a bolt-on foil kit for dinghies now.
Will my 272 ever have foils? No.
I am not against the beauty of the 12 Meter. However, these owners have money and ego, and that is a crazy combination!
