I would be interested in that work around as our four hp Tohatsu does the same thing. Even with the frictionlock down tight the motor still won't stay where you put it.

Thanks
Sam
Same problem here with my Failpro 6. I have to use bungee cords to hold mine straight.

I downloaded the Nov Mainbrace but it did not have the info on the friction lock in it. Crappers.

Sam,

The C-22 Association offers the current issue of the MainBrace for free, to anyone, and the next issue will be out the first of the year, (it's a bi-monthly publication). Once the new current issue is posted on the C-22 Association web site, the old copy is archived. It's no secret when the new issue of the MainBrace comes out. It's noted on many of the C-22 web sites, i.e Facebook, Yahoo, and I normally make a posting also on this site. We started this several years ago to help show folks one of the many benefits of becoming members of the National C-22 Association. Few, if any other sailing Association maintains the resources available to their boat owners like the C-22 Association does.

Shortly after the beginning of the new year, the archived issues of the MainBrace from the past year become available to be purchased as a PDF file to download, or on a CD. But these, as well as the C-22 Tech Manual are only available to members of the Association. It's one of the few things the Association does to make some money to pay for the web site expenses, printing expenses, and maintaining the data collected from over the past 40 years.

Do a search on this site under "MainBrace", you'll find that I have regularly posted when the new issues come out. If folks don't take advantage of it, it's hard to understand why they choose to throw stones later.....

Hope the explanation helps.....

Don

Either did I with my 3 year old Sail-Pro, but the thieves needed it more than me, and my new one had this issue. But it didn't show up initially, only became a problem after I had 15-20 hours on the new engine.

This holding straight issue has me a little concerned. My 93 yahtwin evinrude is fine was just looking into a new four stroke better on fuel too. Sometimes we just like to motor around when there's no wind

You won't believe the difference in fuel consumption with the new 4-strokes. My old 6 HP Johnson Sail-Master burned 3/4 of a gallon a hull speed compared to ~ 20 MPG with my 6 HP Tohatsu. The noise and smell level is huge also. The fix is quite easy if you have some basic mechanical skills. Checkout my posting on this issue.

Hello. I may be too late on this but I'll give it a try. I have a Catalina 22. I'm looking at a used 2013 Yamaha F4. It's a 4HP 4 stroke. Do you think this is enough to do the basic in/out of dock, dead calm motoring? Thanks.

I think if you are on a smaller lake with no big waves or current then the 4hp should be fine. I may go that way also when it's time

google "tohatu lock fix"
There's a blog with one other solution to the friction lock "problem".
He also notes in the comments that he added a cam lock nut in place of the plastic wingnut.
