Its that time of the year where we have to put our boats to winter sleep. I actually pulled my boat out a few weeks ago, cause she sustained some damage and she is at the body shop now.
We had snow here yesterday and it is outright miserable today. freezing, wind blowing, flurry's you name we got it.

So I guess for the next 8 months we will be desk sailing, hanging out here with SBO .

Hope every one has a great winter.

You have a trailer sailboat... hitch it up and go south for a long weekend or such.
Ya easier said than done, just south of us Montana which is a 6 hour drive, plus a think called work gets in the way..

This is the best time to sail on the Chesapeake. Steady winds and no bugs. I will be staying in the water this winter and hopefully be active until the serious freezes start. I miss the year round sailing season down south.

Closed Tiki-bar adds insult to the injury of winter for me
That's so sad. very very very sad. There should be a way to keep the tiki bar open. After all, people just NEED a tiki bar from time to time.

Now we don't really have lots of tiki bars here in socal, unless you count the bar at Two Harbors. But we do sail all winter. I truly feel for y'all in the north.

If you go to bartender school like I did, they teach you how to open your own beers.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
yeah, I knew that my season would be short so I already packed Saga onto the trailer. Perfect timing because we had the Matthew scare, extremely high tides, tons of rain, and right as I started taking my rudder off the metal piece that holds the rudder down broke at the weld.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed with my bottom paint from this year. It was the highest and most costly West Marine paint. PCA Gold is what I think it is and in previous years it had irgarol. This year it didn't have the Irgarol and I was really slimed. I have been in the water for multiple years and not been this slimed (though I do usually dive on the boat a few times in the summer). I was in the water from April 15 to September 22 so it wasn't that long either. Pathetic!!! If they don't have Irgarol in the PCA Gold this year I am going the get the cheapest bottom paint (I use Ablative) and I will leave it at that since I haul every six months anyway.

Another thing that I noticed, based on my last trip, is that the small cabin of Saga is already closing in on me. Part of the problem is downsizing from my beloved Catalina 30 to my Compac 23. Still, the cabin seems to get smaller with every trip and the worst part is my wife doesn't understand this. She never goes to the boat so she keeps saying that 23 feet is big enough for me.

Pearson 530 Admiralty Bay, Bequia SVG
Flip side of the coin here. We were the ONLY boat anchored in the Tobago Cays this week and Chatham Bay, Union Island was also deserted. Few restaurants are open in Port Elizabeth, Bequia and I could count the transient boats in the anchorage with both hands and have some fingers left over.
Almost like it was 30 years ago.

Sailing is just now starting to get really good in South Florida... Overnight temperatures are starting to cool a bit from low 80's to low 70's overnight... winds are becoming better... all in all autumn and winter sailing in South Florida is just warming up.
