Is the party over?

Merit 22- Oregon lakes
Jennifer and I took a drive today just to get out on a nice sunny day. decided to go up to Howard Prairie Lake, which is a high mountain lake with awesome sailing, but also used for irrigation in the valley below. we were last there a little over a week ago and it was barely launchable then, so we assumed it would be too low by today. I think we could have still launched today, but it would be REAL close, as only about 2' of water remains over the bottom of the cement ramp. Adding to the insult, the winds were 8-10 and smooth as a babies butt. We'll still be able to sail a wile yet down in the valley, but it almost made me shed a tear knowing the "good" sailing days left this year are numbered.

At least we don't live in those places where the water all freezes over. Those folks have to put ice skates on their boats if they can find a smooth spot. I heard some of those places even get buried in white powder. I like it when that stuff stays up in the mountains where it belongs. I can grab skis or snowshoes and visit, but don't need to live in it.

The party is not over yet, but the Band is packing up. I stopped by the Finger Lakes Boating Center last weekend for a few components, and was also handed the haul out paper work. They're offering significant discounts if you get the boat out in the next two weeks. We're gonna wait until the beginning of October to comply. A tear has been shed ⛵⛵⛵:doh::doh:

We live in one of those places that Ken has described.

Reserved my haul-out date (October 15) to pull my O'Day 322 out of Lake Michigan.

I shed a tear when I called the Marina. My wife on the other hand was ecstatic (she does not share my zest for sailing) ☹

At least I got out a lot over the Labor Day weekend, including an overnight stay at anchor off the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

I need to retire somewhere where the water does not get hard!

There's a lot of reasons to end the season but the authorities taking the water out from under you just seems wrong. I just re-launched my runabout after Hermine and am planning to be in the water until early December. Shoulder season is the best! The best thing about this boat is that I don't have to listen to a boat yard about when I have to pull it out, or when I want to launch - which is a joke anyway. And it's why my next keelboat will be trailer able.

Next 2 weeks!...The best sailing is just starting! We'll be in to the bitter end, when they kick us out of Treman Marina toward the end of Oct. The sailing today was fantastic, FWIW. Of course, ours is trailerable, so we can pull it out whenever we want.

Down here the season is just beginning. We can't sail much during the summer. No wind, afternoon storms and an occasional hurricane. Waiting for night time temps to dip into the high 60's or low 70's.

Same here as Sailm8.. We are at peak tropical storm generation season now.. and toward early October, we'll be in that time when the wind is here and the nights are cool enough to sleep on anchor without air conditioning.
Cautiously watching the parade of tropical systems as they leave Africa and head this way..

For those of you who have ice in lakes instead of drinks, you may want to consider relocating to South East Asia where sailing is practically 24/7 365.
Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore...

Honestly, some of you have it made. A 30 ft or longer, older, Cherubini Hunter weighs in at over 4 tons. Not personally trailerable, considering a full 4800 lbs., 5.5 ft keel, behind a GMC 1500. Tractor-trailers and hydraulics are the only things that land transport has to contribute. This boat has to be removed from the marina, about the second or third week in October.

We had an awesome 5 day, 4 night party-fest with friends over the Labor Day weekend. Perfect Sailing venue. My tears emulate from the fact that this first year aboard the ole girl is coming to an end, way faster than I had imagined. This is what the bitter end of the season brings. Continued and fair winds to those that can extend the season.

We are waiting to launch in October (slip prices drop by half) and start our local sailing season. No hurricanes here on the west coast of Arizona. We just got home from a summer of sailing on Lake Coeur d'Alene and I barely have time to get the boat cleaned up. This retirement is killing me.

We don't have the big pocket cruiser convention (HPCC) any longer but we still have a lot of people getting together and having fun, Facebook, Sailing Lake Havasu. Come see us when you need a break from the cold and gray.

That's what we did, and I highly recommend it! After 13 years of 4-5 month sailing seasons, then constant freezing and thawing on the hard all winter, we finally got the boat down to the Caribbean where it belongs! Now, we moved it into a "hurricane hole marina" for the season, and it lets us get a little work done that was harder on the mooring. No fear of freezing!

Wow. Treman is emptying out already? Maybe Dean on Ceasura, an Oday 26 will take you out! Tell him Andrew sent you...

Just don't crank the trailer winch so tight you cannot get the trailer extension back in! I used to be next to you in Treman, with Dean in the C22. I am over in Seneca now with my 272. Maybe I will see you over there soon to help Dean remove his boat. We were out today: NNW 10-16 and 3 ft swells on Seneca. Wonderful day of sailing!

She's coming on stage now John, but we're headed up to Lost Creek Tues and Wed anyway, hoping the ramp doesn't end in a cliff like it did last year at this time. It's sure been a fantastic summer for us so far.

You might get a chance on Detroit Lake.
I'm heading up to San Juans next week. And hoping to get a weather opening to bring the boat down to Portland early October.

Here in the desert our lakes only have water in the winter and then it's too shallow to be of much good for boats of any kind. Many of us have sailboats with wheels.

I'm happy to be retiring in a place that has water, even if it is solid 3-5 months out of the year. :)

We saw Dean out there yesterday. Great day for sailing on Cayuga, as well. Earlier this summer, we launched our boat on your lake for a week's pre-cruise, before we took it up to the North Channel of Lake Huron. We covered Seneca from Sampson State park to Geneva, down to Watkins Glenn, and back up to Sampson. Had some pretty great sailing conditions then too.
