Perhaps this new "like" thing is not the best idea.
I received a PM from a newish member who hasn't been around long enough to realize that the like thing is newly instituted; "Check my percentage of likes vs yours."
This from a guy who quite possibly hasn't been boating long enough to grasp how a marine toilet operates to someone who has spent almost every day on the water (professionally and for pleasure) for the last 50 years or so.
I guess I'm just not one of the 'cool kids', huh?
There's a. Like Every one needs a like now and then. Now if it was a lick maybe I'd get excited.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Who cares! Then again the Millenials are infiltrating everything these days. I guess we will just become a social media hot spot and we will all have to post selfies, like and follow posts, and text while we sail!:deadhorse:

yeah, sailnet had that 'like' thing. theirs was very annoying, and one of the reasons I stopped going there.

Sailnet had the feature that put a popup on your screen every time someone liked your post. and you had to click it to hide it. annoying. there was a setting to hide it, but it kept being reset.

SBO's like isn't so annoying, so I don't mind it much.... but its worth what you paid for it....

This is not as far reached as you think. Our Sailing Club has been inundated by the "Pokemon" crowds to the point that they trashed the washrooms, crashed the Wi-Fi and created a major problem at the parking lot. We are doomed:waycool:.

I'm a moderately old guy (60 like) but very new to sailing (1 year) and I will admit that I clearly do not understand all the "liking" that's happening on Facebook, etc. Seems like it's just more of a "see me, see me, see me" thing... Personally, I "like" and greatly appreciate any and all advice I receive on this site but that said I'd like to avoid any "liking" requirements...no way I can keep everyone happy....even when I clearly should.... Sounding like the old guy that technology slipped past...thank heavens... - Tom O'Day 28 :what:

Oh come on, who was it??

PS - That 'ratio' idea is about as silly as dividing your height by your bedroom tackle size to get..... nevermind.... I guess it makes really short dudes feel better.

Isn't the "like" button is a spam gateway?

I think of the like as a shorter response. I don't have to type, "I think that's a great response!"

PS: Any likes I give are for knowledge gained, laughter, and steering me way from stupid mistakes about to happen. The do give appreciation for fun learning on SBO.

The best reason not have Likes signal ego to kick in...

Obscurity and a competence. That is the life that is best worth living.
