Thanks, quite nice. I like the "cleaner" versions, compared to the versions that seem to crop up before sporting events, that botch a perfectly good tune.

Now, tell us, Brian, how you got such a clean, scratch-free version from the original 1854 recording! :) Was it from an original cast album? :)

That's interesting. I'm so used to hearing embellished arrangements at first I thought this version missed a couple of the chord changes!

If you were alive in 1854
Ahhh yes '54 was a good year.
Gold Rush in '49 was well underway, 31 Stars, Kansas and Nebraska was open for settlement.
Commodore Perry open a new Japanese base and started the way for Sony.
Secret plans were made to take Cuba from Spain and make Gitmo.
The anti-slavery groups form a new political party...Republican.
The first refining of crude oil to separate kerosene and gasoline without Ethanol was done.
George Eastman had his first "Kodak moment".
C.W. Post was on the path for Grape Nut flakes and Post Toasties.
I was a very good year...

...and to think my wife said, "don't post that, they will really know how old you are." I should have listened. ;)

Here is where I got the music.

Thank you Brian!
I have often wondered how many young people have never heard or know the original- bothers me when I hear the (being nice) modified versions.

Although a very nice tune, it was not the National Anthem of the United States at this time. That would not happen for another 70+ years. 1931 to be exact, by Congressional Resolution. The music was written by an Englishman, but not for this purpose. The music was written by John Stafford Smith in 1770. The original melody (as heard in the 1854 version) was taken from the music The Anacreontic Song.

So, the words are American and the music is British. Appropo I would say, hear hear. God Save The Queen (that's another song we can discuss - America (My Country 'Tis of Thee))!

Nice, but I still like the F18 flyover versions if the lyrics aren't abused. It make me proud!
