I called Defender and explained the situation to them. The Defender customer service rep said that while they refer customers to the manufacturer after the 30 day return window, they expect the manufacturers to honor their warranties. She took down a history of what happened with the pump and then read it back to me to be sure it was accurate. She then asked for a copy of the email chain between me and the folks at Attwood. She said the person at Defender who does the ordering from Attwood would contact Attwood to advocate on my behalf.

Within two hours of that call I received a pre-paid return shipping label from Attwood attached to an email indicating they would send me a new pump as soon I ship the defective one back.

Really glad Defender had my back on this one! Thanks to all for the good advice.

my Atwood fully automatic pump will not shut off it it gets a little debris caught in the valve assembly. Take the bowl and strainer/sieve off and direct the business end of a water hose at the inlet of the pump and see if that gets rid of the debris. Taking the pump part as far as I can and rinsing it out real good has worked for me twice. Once just last week.

You asked about other pumps - I can only comment on the Shur-flo we have on our boat. It does have an adjustable pressure setting, however it seems that the pressure switch only lasts 2 - 3 years. Thankfully the pump has a three year warranty. I purchased the first one about 8 years ago, and have had it replaced twice under warranty, both times very nearly at the three year mark. Our boat is only in the water for 6 months of the year, and then is typically used mostly on weekends...

I missed the "second page" of this thread when I posted. I didn't realize defender had come to your aid. I almost always order from them. Way to go defender!

While Attwood is taking their defective pump back, the Admiral did not want to wait any longer to be able to wash dishes, shower, etc. So I bought and installed a Flojet automatic pressure pump with an inlet water strainer. Installation was a breeze (all fittings were included), and the pump runs perfectly. It is extremely quiet, does not leak, and does not run unless one of the faucets is open. And it has not caused any leaks elsewhere in the boat. Very happy with the Flojet pump.

Hello, I just want to add that I did not see anyone ask if by chance you may have wired it wrong and bypassed the pressure switch. Just a possiblity

The pressure switch is internal on this pump, so wiring it to bypass the switch would not be possible without disassembling and modifying the pump.
