Running on sailboat fuel used to be trucker slang for running out or low on gas. I've not listened to a CB in years, so I don't know if it is still a common expression.

When I joined the Marines, my first duty assignment was MAG-11 at El Toro, Ca. Being that is an aviation unit, I was tasked to bring back a yard of Flight Line, Then, being a communicator, I needed to also get an ST-1 and a can of Frequency Grease. After that was over, I had to qualify with a hammer. Wonder it new boots are hazed the same way now? LOL

I was there in the early 70's. El Toro is closed now but no doubt new guys are treated the same way at the other bases. Semper Fi !

"This wrench doesn't fit. Go down to ship's stores and get me a left handed monkey wrench." At ship's store, it was "The red long handled or the white short handled one?" Came back for the red long handled one and it had just left five minutes earlier. God, I was such a dweeb then.

I knew about the bucket of steam but dad never said anything about the Freaking Left Handed Monkey Wrench.
