The 3-4 times we've trailer sailed so far in 2016 it seemed the wind was always just right during setup and breakdown but went flat each time we left the dock. a recent weather forecast was for 3 days of unseasonably warm very low 80s days with mid 40s nights so we decided to jump on the chance of an early season overnighter on the boat. arrived at the lake by 10AM, got set up, and of course the winds began to diminish as we motored out of the marina. un-detered, we motored across the lake and cooked up a nice lunch on-board and awaited the mid-late afternoon winds. right on schedule the winds picked up to a very pleasant 8-10 for much of the remainder of the evening and eventually pushed us to the West side of the lake, where we anchored about 40' off shore so we'd be set to capture the early morning sun. There's a small boat or hike-in only campground there, so we tossed the anchor about 100 feet out and ran to the beach where we tied off the bow to a stump. this let us pull ourselves into the beach to use the facilities or stretch our legs and then return to the boat and pull ourselves back out to anchor. worked out real well.
Lasagna onboard for dinner, and after the evening scrabble game, we hit the hay around 11:00 and drifted off to sleep to the sounds of the small waves lapping against the hull.
As the sun crested the mountains across the lake, the winds were already beginning to pick up so we downed a cup of Swiss Miss and headed out for a really fun morning sail that lasted till about 10:00 AM . there were brief periods of movement after that, but mostly we just lounged, ate, had a Corona, and drifted to wherever the lake would take us. all in all a MOST enjoyable early April treat! even got a bit of a tan started for the year.
We also enjoyed the company of a C 25 for a wile. So we weren't the only crazy people out on an early April day.
Anxious for many more this year,
Russ-Jennifer
