Interesting layout Phil. After five years on the old format this will take a moment to get used to. Long enough, no problem.

We switched to VB in 2008 and the cry and pain of _that_ change was worse than this by ten-fold. It does take time to learn where things are, though, but things are in logical places (which was not always true on VB) so it should come fairly quickly.

Well that was nifty. The little inverted raindrop alerts when a response to a thread of interest has a new addition. Nice touch.

These are the same guys who wrote the VB software we used. They split off on their own and did a nice job of diving deeper into features people can really use, and dumping most of junk that just causes clutter. I am already addicted to those alerts.

The "need help" links for the text are in a yellow colour that does not display well at all on my monitor.
There seems to be an issue uploading files. I grabbed the section of the screen, and I couldn't upload it as a .png, so I changed it to a .jpg and got a "you can't" banner with each. The file(s) are 25 and 32k, so size isn't an issue.

Sorry, are those links in the green banner? Or actually, it may not be green now. Is it a floating banner at the bototm of the screen?

png format is no problem so there must be something else going on. Was this on a new post or a reply? And do you recall more of what the error message said?

Perfect place for this question! Unread threads are bold, read threads are not. As for posts within threads, I have not dug into the specifics of this yet but it is an inexact science. I think that posts which can be identified as new (i.e., posted after your last recorded visit) will have a "new" flag on the right side. But it's not perfect as the software can'y track scrolling, only clicking. So it has no way of knowing what you've read with 100% certainty.

If I misunderstood the question please let me know.

Don't want to complain, I mean it's not like I'm paying to use this :) but I can't stand mobile apps that flash ads and get sticky when you try to scroll past them, then they activate and send you to some download site which you then have to repeatedly kill. Luckily I have auto download turned off. Also some other help banner which doesn't need to hover and constantly be in the way.

Also the text that I'm writing doesn't page down when it goes to the next line, it hides behind the keyboard so I have to manually scroll.
I know if I log in the ads go away but I liked not having to always log in.
Just feedback. :)

Input is good, it's all about tone. :)

You can close the help banners by clicking the "x" on the right side. Once closed they don't come back. there's a balance between making sure people see those and being annoying.

The ads aren't sticky, and you should be able to scroll past them easily. We have tried to shut down all the slimy ad categories, so if you saw one that looks suspect let me know and we'll either kill the ad of the category it comes from. And, if you login and check the Remember Me box you shouldn't have to login for a long time, or be bothered by ads.

I don't think I've written a post long enough to get past the text box. I may be able to make that larger. I suspect the condition you're describing is browser/ios-specific but I'm not up on that stuff enough to know for sure.

Let me know if you remember anything about an objectionable ad, we don't want any of that garbage here.

Hello Phil:

Just wanted also to thank you for the modernization of the SBO website. The browser's on my Android Tablet (Chrome), Windows Phone (IE) and Windows 10 computer (Firefox) all do the new format proud. Everything looks and performs the same on each device now. Quite a feat! And response time is quite fast even on the mobile devices. (But not quite as fast the R.I.P. SBO Android app.)

One item I can't seem to find though is the ability to change the "oldest first" or "newest first" order of posts in a thread. The option isn't on my personal preferences page. And I don't see a toggle on the actual forum pages. I have always set for newest on top. The default I see now is the original post on top .... and one must scroll down to the bottom to see the latest response. Can I change the order?

rardi

Again thanks.

I miss that reverse threading, too. It isn't configurable out of the box but there are lots of commercial mods available to add any functions which are missing from VB. I'll see what I can find.

It was at the bottom right of the screen. I grabbed it and tried to upload it. It was in the reply that I posted above your message, and the error was quite specific. You can't. No error code, No 800 number to an offshore pizza place, No Vince offering a Slap Chop at a seriously reduced price.

Interesting. I just created an Album, and tried to put the screenshot in there, and got the same error. I'll try creating an all new thread and see what that does.

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 9.28.36 PM.png Weird. Maybe Xenforo won't let you upload screen captures of Xenforo. :) I need to make up some really obtuse error messages, and living around so many Microsoft employees I should be able to get plenty of advice. Anyway, I dumped the floating notice, trimmed them all down to be smaller, and stacked them at the top. Less hassle for everyone, I think.

Edit: also trying to upload screen Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 9.28.36 PM.png capture.

A new thread resulted in the same error. (I didn't finish it) File uploads worked just fine when we were testing, I've not loaded anything new (except an update to Flash) since we were using the captive system.
This is my first try at uploading something since it went live.

This does use Flash, which I can turn off. Let me try that.

Edit: Flash is now turned off. I'll also check your db record to see if anything is amiss there.

I would expect Gates to prevent uploads of Gates, but I did open the file in Preview, cropped out the overlap and saved it as something else, so the Meta should have dropped the "Xenforo warning" :badbad:
