Now THAT is weird. I restarted the Mac, and it put up the Flash splash with the file stuff, and here's what the original error was.

I disabled the Flash uploader in your preferences. also checked permissions for users of the class Registered, everything looks good. I'm betting it is a Flash issue, hopefully now resolved.

Yep, I think Flash gets the blame. But rebooting... I didn't know you would take such drastic diagnostic measures.

Really! (and this is a DIRECT copy and paste) :
Nobody's sure what Phil does, but it's definitely full of synergy and has to do with upper management, whom none of the engineers want to deal with so they just let Phil do what he wants.
