We are deep into Damariscove Islands inner cove (Maine). At low tide it is about 60' wide at best. An hour ago we could not see even half way to that Nonsuch......

P.S. I spoke too soon fog rolling back in.....

Damariscove, one of our favorites. We usually take the innermost mooring with about 3 feet at low. Sometimes it pays to have a shoal keel. Our first time there, waves were 8 feet at the bouy when we tried to leave. Wife in tears, we turned tail and headed back in. Ended up getting invited to dinner at the caretakers cottage by the skipper of Black Mallard. A near disasterous day turned to noteworthy memories.

We are at anchor by Campbell Island at the SE end of Eggemoggin Reach. Its been a rainy day; hoping for better weather tomorrow. We are working our way back to BBH and then back home to Bristol, RI. Any chance we can meet you somewhere RC?

Sitting on the hook at Long Cove at 6:00 am on Vinalhaven and while there is no fog it just started raining again..... Thank God for the dodger, Bimini and side curtains.. Friends of ours came from Falmouth yesterday and pulled in here at about 8:45 last night cold, soaked and miserable, not even a dodger just Souwesters and rain gear.....

P.S. Don't know where we will head for today yet. Will let you know once we factor wind & weather....

I find trying to see through a dodger in the rain is useless when under way and will fold the dodger down to be able to see. Those things need windshield wipers!

Dave,

Maine is the cradle of REAL sailors, where conditions hone our abilities to the finest of cutting edge. Why, after a few years, we can see thru the fog. No need for radar. And our body temperature becomes self-regulating, adjusting to make the sailor perfectly comfortable in any conditions. We drink seawater and are happy for that. We dodge rocks, ledges and buoys . . . by smell alone, blindfolded, while listening to Kenny G. You've heard of Bernard Moitessier, Joshua Slocum, Vito Dumas? Morons!

How was Niagara?

We keep our windows perfectly clear and treat then with IMAR, never had any issues in rain or fog....
