I made a 3-drink holder for the front of the cockpit footwell, and a 2-drink holder with a cubby for handheld VHF, stereo remote, ect. for the rear. I will just screw these to the footwell fiberglass from inside. They're made of Douglas Fir. Still gotta finish sand and seal, but time to go to work

Very nice WillSnow. Maybe I should post a picture of my cup holders.

This is our First Mate's favorite spot. I just need to teach him to operate the lines.

Serious question: we just adopted a miniature Sheperd, and are trying to find ways to get her acclimate to sailing.

Any helpful tricks?

I started all my dogs on the hard, then moored or docked until the get used to the movement, then short trips in harbor.

A pocket full of treats is good distraction too

JohnCTV21 gives good advice. We, however, live 150+ miles from the nearest sailing area so taking short trips isn't practical. Instead we brought him into the boat while it was parked in our back yard and let him get accustomed to it on the trailer. He likes riding in the truck so riding on the boat wasn't all that big of a step for him. I would avoid big wind and waves until he gets used to it, even if that means you have to spend your whole weekend on the dock.

We also put the cooler at the base of the steps so that he could step down into the cabin. A rug with rubber backing placed on top of the cooler gave him enough traction that he didn't slip off. Later I modified the step to make it even easier for him. I also made a ramp so that he can climb from the boat into the dinghy and visa versa.

Jeff,
A buddy has a whole lot of in/out carpet for the seats so that the dogs can get some traction. I can't tell you what kind of dogs, but they're large.

I used the foam matting that clicks together like a puzzle and cut it to size to fit the cock pit door. My dog gets a bit squirrelly if he can get traction. Im not sure why... he loves nothing better than supermaning straight off the boat but let him slide around on the floor and he gets all stressed out. A few times when the sailing got a bit exciting he jumped right off the boat. I put the foam in and now he stays in the boat.

With a little inspiration from Sumner and a few others I finally finished my dual anchor roller build-up.
Looking good, Bud! ... I am always jealous of you guys and your welding proficiency. My little 110v welder barely handled the mild steel I was using on my trailer project. Sure would be nice to have shielding gas and more power... and the know-how to put it to good use...

Thank you WillSnow. I'm glad I didn't have to do any welding on this project. I used to be able to TIG weld fairly well but my hands aren't study enough anymore. Arc and MIG are still okay but I can't do any fine detail welding anymore.

Hey BudGates - how did you modify your ladder for the pooch? Would it also be a good mod for little kiddos? I've been contemplating building up a ships ladder sort of setup that would just "slip over" the current single stair, adding one above and one below and widening the tread.

Very nice WillSnow. The spot for your handheld is a good idea too.

I see you're located in Kirkland WA. I grew up in Auburn WA and wll be in that area the end of Summer for my sister's wedding and some vacation.

Over the past few days, I've been removing the "silicontaminated" chainplates and cover plates.

The chainplates are somewhat bent to conform to their particular locations, and I was wondering if any Mac owners, when replacing their chainplates, have pre-bent their new chainplates to match the old ones, or just allowed them to assume their shape naturally?
