Well said, Don. And, just for anyone's curiosity, here is a little data. First, from Loadmaster Trailers, in Tampa:
Based on the specifications of your boat I would recommend our single-axle trailer model 240S615SB, constructed out of a 4" frame. Our standard trailers are custom painted any color you would like.
This single -axle model is equipped with one 6,000 lb. drop center axle and 15" load range D radial tires. This combination provides a GVWR of 5,334 lbs., but once you subtract the weight of the trailer, the Net Payload is 4,114 lbs. This trailer is equipped with electric drum brakes, LED Lights, extra tall long reverse winch stand, tongue jack, safety break away system, structural fenders, a heavy 2 speed manual winch with 3" nylon strap, safety chains and more. Direct price for this trailer is $4,095.00 plus tax if picked up or delivery cost.
Recommended Salt Water Options:
- Galvanizing of the frame, wheels, axles, springs, structural fenders etc $455
- Stainless Steel Hardware $250
- All wheel surge disc brakes $410
- Tongue Extension $295 If you stick with an electric style brake, if you want surge brakes, you cannot do the extended style tongue extension

And then from TrailRite, in Santa Ana CA:

surge brakes/disc - jack w/caster - extension tongue
keel guide's - winch w/strap T1500 - Galvanized finish
Price as listed = $3684.00 plus tax & license
Cash discount = $3509.00 plus T & L
Sail Trailers, in Columbus GA, came in at about $3100 for a 5000lb galvanized trailer with keel guides, tongue extension, and drum brakes. Disc brakes were some substantial but vague amount more ... Sail Trailers does NOT like to install disc brakes. "Drum brakes are simple" is about the best reason I could get for that. FWIW, if someone wanted the CHEAPEST option, SailTrailers offers a stripped-down, base model, painted trailer for $1950.
The last quote (and the one I like best) came from Owens & Sons Trailers, in St Petersburg, makers of "Slide-On" trailers. They quoted me a 5000lb, dual axle, aluminum trailer with all stainless hardware, disc brakes (surge), torsion axles, and spare tire w/mount, for $3805 + tax. It comes with 13" rims, but I assume with four of them that would not be a problem?
Interestingly, I was just told today by TrailRite (to whom Catalina Yachts referred me!) that they do NOT build trailers for Catalina Yachts, that Catalina "uses a local builder". So, tomorrow I plan to call Catalina back once more, and try to waterboard out of them the secret identity of this "local builder". I'm honestly a little vexed that they sent me on a goose chase like that.
Ken, I think you were onto something with your "best kept secret in the Universe" comment!!
