I knew there was an exhaust leak somewhere in the system - and the problem presented itself while digging around under the muffler for the engine thru hull last evening. The exhaust hose is nearly completely separated at the "goes-out" port on the muffler. I'm somehow amazed we haven't flooded the boat. In any case, obviously we'll replace that hose as it also has some noticeable rust spots where the wire reinforcement is failing.
The muffler itself is also in pretty crummy shape, not mounted to anything, and in the way of the engine thru hull. I'd considered moving the thru hull, but now I wonder if I could replace the muffler and relocate it out of the way. Not sure what it originally looked like under the port lazarette - but there's a shelf there now holding the 2 batteries. Those are getting replaced shortly, so I'm not opposed to moving/rebuilding their home.
Has anyone done this in a 28' O'Day with a Yanmar 2YM15 - or similar boat/engine? The mixing elbow is on the port side.
Thanks Much!
Chris
