Did some of the MacGregor trailers come with brakes or did you all add them?

I have to say, one of the most frustrating things about the trailers is they welded stuff that has a limited life or someone may want to upgrade such as the hitch, the thingy (sorry, at a loss for words) that you raise and lower the trailer with and the bow bracket. All in all its a good trailer with the exception of the MacGregor bump design flaw.

Good question. IDK.

It seems that the new Tattoo trailers don't come with brakes, but an "upgrade" trailer package is available, and would be required by CA law, as they're >3k lbs.

They describe their stock trailer as a "yard dolly or shipping cradle"

I picked up a Mr. Heater (small bottle of propane fuel) for next month boat camping at Lake Havasu. Weight is 10 pounds total.. it will live in the Vberth area with all the other random junk stored up there when not being used.

It seems to really put out some heat.. Ill use it mostly first thing in the morning.

How is the sailing at Havasu? I'm new to this sailing thing and we have a place on the Parker Strip below Parker Dam. I'm thinking the learning would be more comfortable on a place I'm very familiar with. Not to mention the weather is beautiful this time of year, but as you say the mornings can be alittle chilly.

Since your in Parker.. you probably already know a lot of this but..

I think its a good overall place for sailing and its a river lake so very long and skinney. The winds almost always seem to be blowing with the river direction (ie, pretty much significantlly north or south) so if your traveling on the lake, its always upwind or downwind. If your coming from the coast, you probably will think its gusty. Im comming from over 5000 to 9000 ft el sailing and I think its a lot steadier than Im used to. I think its a fairly breezy area. Where I think what really stands out is that you can go to better places for a week.. but its great place to go for three months during the winter.

They are going to Lake Mohave first, then to Lake Havasu. Both lakes have Zebra.. which is actually nice as its no problem at all to launch at Mohave then drive to Havasu and launch.

FYI, one of these days I need to come down to your area (Parker) and sail the river with a Hobie TI.

I put new original nav. lights fore an aft as the old ones time had not been very good to and I'm making new covers inside cabin out of a high density plastic material to replace nasty old wood ones.

I actually enjoy going there in the summer when its "really fricken hot" and sail.. but you must have something that is fast to launch. Once on the lake, its not bad at all (like saililng in a swamp cooler) but spending time in the parking lot rigging is seriously not fun (I have done it when the temp was 117F - but it was a fast de-rig)

Its mostly the channel area that gets all the congestion. I just go to more remote areas to launch which are often hand launch/ no motor only.. no crowds.

It hit 60F Friday and I just couldn't stand not being on the boat so I decided to finish the install of our AirHead. It only took 9 months LOL! We opted for the one with the full size seat and I gotta say it looks a whole lot better than the old port-a-potty did. Now I'm just waiting on some warm extended weekends to come our way.

that head is pretty slick. I was wondering if it used DC power - it does for a fan but its only .06 amps - very little.

Also it looks like you can just use coffee filters for the seperation job..

What to do with the finished compost? If you are using it in the garden, you probably dont want to let the folks at work know details of why the Zucchini you are tryiing to give away grew so well..

(I am always giving away Zucchini in the summer and we compost from kitchen scraps)

Thanks Walt,
I know people use the compost as fertilizer for their flower gardens but I don't think it's a good idea to use for veggies. If your not into gardening it is perfectly legal to bag the compost and toss it in the nearest dumpster which can be convenient. The fan is really quiet and with the solar charger the draw is irrelevant even with several days of no sun. I liked the idea of the coffee filters to keep things clean but it can also be used without them if you choose.

Also I understand the fan creates a negative pressure where the composting happens so probaby does a great job of controlling smell.

.06 amps is about 1.4 amp hours per day.. not much at all.

Today, I again sailed the Sea of Cortez, and was becalmed about two miles out during the return trip.
Saw at least three humpback whales, albeit from a few hundred yards off.

Here comes low tide in Puerto Penasco. Huge tides here.
