We took the seat cushions from the cabin (original fabric covers) unzipped the covers from the foam still in good shape thru the covers in the wash and they came out looking like new.

I did a coupe drawings of my arch design and blogged about it. Link on my signature below.
Also got new bolts for the water pump on my 6 Hp Johnson. Have to do a little modifications to the bolt size. Going with 1/4" bolts. It will work fine. Just need bigger holes. And threads of course.

It's this "Knoal" guy that's really piqued my interest now, Martin.

Spill the beans!

Any chance you can get Allan Head cap screws vs the Philips head ?? Personally the Allan head would be less likely to strip vs the Philips head. Just thinking down the road.

good luck, Chapster5

That's what I call him.
He tells me that's not his name. So I tell others it's not his name... I call him Knoal. (Not his real name.)

Chapster. Yes. Hex head would probably be better. Thinner too. I don't know if they carry them at Laurie's. I know they could get them but I think the ones I got will last a long time. I think the heads will all fit. One may need .5mm taken off the side. Just so it doesn't touch the pump housing.
The reason I have to replace them is this motor doesn't have a Zink Anode on it. Or place for one. (1974) It will when I'm done with it. I won't be leaving it hanging in the lake for the summer or how ever long it was left in before I got it.

The guy's an enigma. :D

Anywho, after playing Santa Claus until about 1500 hrs, A friend and I set about reinstalling the keel. Finally.

I was able to back the boat halfway into the shop, allowing us a concrete floor to crawl and roll upon.

The trolley I'd made did its job pretty well, and along with a floor jack, we kedged 625 pounds with a come-along until it was time to remove the forward uprights from the trolley.

Keeping the top of the keel in the keel trunk made things a little easier as we switched supports and kept removing uprights from the trolley, until she was reasonably in line with the pivot hole.

A little touch up paint, I'll raise the mast one more time to check everything out, then trailer down Mexico way.

Is that all the further that keel tucks up under that boat? Interesting. But it is a darn good looking keel

If you guys are talking about retirement onto a sail boat, I am one jealous fella... I've got 3 decades before I can make that dream a reality... (or, I should say, 3 decades to try to ensure the dream happens?)

Fair winds, Guy!!

Hey there are young people out there that made the decision to take off around the world in a boat and made it happen for pretty cheap, some even with kids. Then later they 'settled down' for a while and then in retirement went back to a boat.

If something is important don't let it pass you by, there are always ways to do it,

But.. Compound interest on investments doesn’t work on boats and you can’t help your kids through college if you haven’t saved.. I personally took that as a responsibility when I chose to have kids and they are keeping me from completely retiring at the moment. Plus, retirement when you can take it is going to be a lot more pleasant if you have done a good job saving over a lot of years and starting early. However.. these old Macs don’t need to cost a lot and have a huge return of fun and satisfaction.

Sumner, what are your Florida sailing plans now..

Hope to finally leave here next Monday...4 days to get there and then will probably work on the Endeavour while it is still cold, yes it can be cold in Florida in the winter (lows in the low 40's at night in the boat).

I really hope to have the Endeavour ready to go in the water by at least mid-Feb but will have to wait and see if I have someone that can go along. They would have to commit to at least a week minimum as it takes a day to get out of the yard and through the canal/lock system to the bay and then a day back in again (working with the tides).

With the Mac I'll go by myself and plan on the West Coast/10,000 Islands/Everglades and down into the lower Keys and the Dry Tortugas. If I get that accomplished or maybe before some of that I'm really thinking about the Bahamas. No for sure plans that I have to stick to.

On the college thing I've put one kid through and know what you're talking about but even there you have options. My folks helped my first year and a half and could of past there but then I had some money coming in from the GI bill and worked also the whole time I was in school from that point on. We have obligations and so do they but everyone will be a different situation I'm sure.

As some of you know I lost a wife to leukemia when we were both in our 30's and about ready to start a family. One thing I learned from that is don't count on putting everything off thinking you will do it when retired. Walt I know you don't as you probably use your boats more than any of us on here. Also one still has to be responsible to themselves and those in their lives.
