I was pulling my Siren 17 around today. I took it out to the storage place and left it there. It's much safer out in the middle of nowhere then in the parking lot of my shop. (Ware someone broke my bow red/green light lens...) Next boat I need to get out there is the Mac in my driveway. Next week sometime.
I built a mast crutch for the cockpit today. Nothing fancy. Oak board finished on one side with a galvanised horn cleat to hold the mast down to it.
The 10" of snow that we got last week is gone. Yea!

A couple videos from last week in Lake Havasu Arizona

Yep, I know my main halyard is loose - I was single handed and raised it in a good breeze, didnt bother to fix it later since this was mostly all downwind.. but the main looks like do do in the video

Several days later, I did this.. which was over 8 miles of pedaling but a really great thing to do

Fun videos Walt. My wife and I will be down there at our RV site at Gold Seekers club site on about 30 Dec. We fish the Colorado at Havasu and points south to Yuma in inflatable kayaks. Chief

Good for you! I wish I could do that myself.. maybe next year.

When you post a video with Havasu in the name, youtube always show a bunch more videos where transients post videos of their parties on the lake. That is not really what that town is about especially in the winter. Winter is more like "Summer camp for seniors".. Great place for someone who is retired and likes the water.

You will understand why we use ice poles and braid line. Its to keep clear of all those reeds hanging out over your head. We catch lots of cat, perch and large mouth. We have caught about 6 bass that were 18" to 22". Night crawlers, no weights, keep quiet. Chief

I got my last boat to the storage place! I have my driveway back just in time to blow snow...
I have to tarp yet. I'm not going to ask the guy with the boat in between mine for how to tips.

Looks like a mobo, that boat in between. Not that I'm biased at all.

It is a mobo.
The tarp was ripped last fall too... It has stuff growing in the carpet now.
It was full of snow last winter. I'm not sure ware the water goes when it rains.
(It could be the reason the storage yard called me and asked if I owned a mobo.) I wonder if it has been forgotten about by it's owner.
I tried to take the water pump apart on my 6hp Johnson again.... I'm in the process of drilling out the broken screws that hold the pump housing in. Fun.
I foresee bigger bolts in newly tapped holes.

got her all tucked away before the snow hits. made a quick mast crutch to support it in the middle, took the lifelines off for better snow fall-off, and left the hatches cracked open to get air moving and hopefully keep mold at bay

Wow, what size it that tarp? Is it canvas?
I've tried the same with the poly tarps but they just shred over the winter. Every point and angle like stanchion tips, blocks etc wore clean through.

I believe it is 19'x30'. I found it at Harbor Freight for around $50. It's actually intended for farm use - covering bales of hay - so its heavier duty and UV treated. A bunch of 12" pieces of rope to tie together the eyes at the end, some bungees across the bottom and voila! This is it's second winter and shows no use from last year. I tape foam over any points that could cut into the tarp and take down the lifelines so there's no friction points going over the stanchions.

Hmmm. Maybe time to cut out one of those 20-30% HF coupons.
I will try tennis balls again on the stanchions.

Marty it looks like the Mac to the right of the mobo is bow down. You may regret that come springtime.

You're wife must be a real team player to let you have all those boats

She is amazing!
I know its down. It was on a block...? I have to get out and tarp them and I'll get that one sitting properly.

Oh I found another potential candidate... http://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/bar...4955?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true&uli=true
Few scratches on the bottom. Nice black aluminum mast.

Now I know where you got the screen name.

You are working on "finding 41" sailboats to call your own.

41 boats in charter and I'm retired... May take a few years. Got to have goals.

A refresher: about a month ago I posted about the mast on my new-to-me 26D, stating that a PO had filled the mast with expanding foam (?!). Today, I finally broke through!! I used a 2 1/4 Forstner type bit (so the waste will have a place to go), 1/2 inch EMT (conduit) for the extension shaft, and drilled about 6-12 inches at a time, vacuumed, repeat. The EMT comes in 10 foot lengths, so as I reached that depth in each end, I made up a 5 foot extension, and continued on. The mast is 28 feet, so I reached the middle with the combined 15 foot length from each end. I removed the remaining foam, attached to the interior side walls of the mast, with 3/4 EMT, the end of which I had formed a scoop with a chisel edge, and carve, carve, carve! As far as the drilling, the most difficulty was with the wiring embedded in the foam - 12/2, and VHF coax. The wire would wrap around the bit, slowing the process. Of course, I had removed all mast hardware at the start. WHEW, glad this is done!

I forgot to mention that I had turned some guides out of Dogwood on my lathe, with 1/2 " center holes for the EMT, just to keep the long extension somewhat centered.

I'll bet you are!
;)

Today, I figured out that the rust converting primer I'd used two days ago, was incompatible with the oil-based topcoat I had put on yesterday. Thank goodness it only encompassed a few square feet.

Started afresh.
