Awesome Admiral's

My Admiral is a great gal and will go along with anything I take a mind to do. On the boat she is a passenger that fixes meals, snacks, makes drinks and once in a while will buy something she thinks the boat has to have, like cockpit cushions etc. I will not let her up on deck as she occasionally has a balance issue.

So she commands the inside and you command the outside???

On our ship she gets starboard and I get port. Thankfully she regularly encroaches....

The Admiral

This is the girl that makes it all worth it! Sailing in July on Green Bay of Lake Michigan. We've been married for over 40 years and she still puts up with me.

There's just something about seeing a woman handling a tiller...

hello all

I tried to call my wife my admiral, but she says she is just part of the crew... so I call her my 1st mate... we both agree our female dog is the Commodore.... my dog is very protective of our boats... she thinks they are hers.... anyone can come up into our yard or house and she is ok with it... but you get near the boat, and she wants to growl and bite you...

my wife's favorite place in the cockpit next to me laying down sleeping when we are sailing... and I have the pictures to prove it.... she doesn't know how to swim, but she also gets up on the bow too ... she enjoys looking at the other boats and the birds out on the water....

my wife is from china, and this is her 1st time to USA.... where she is from there are no sailboats... or lakes either... she has a river running through her city, but it doesn't go over midsection deep walking across it... so there was no need for her to ever learn to swim...
sincerely
Jess

Re: Admiral

Looking back through this thread I've come to a few conclusions:

Sailing women are both beautiful and reliable.
It's a marvelous life style we have chosen.
We damn sure have the raggedyest boat around here....

the best Admirals are best friends

Commitment was our 30th Anniversary gift to each other back in 2003. She acknowledges me as Captain, responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and the welfare of all aboard...She is the Admiral, privileged to tell the Captain where to go....and when.

Here are some shots taken while sailing across the Pamlico Sound on our week long cruise to Ocracoke this year.

Re: the best Admirals are best friends

My admiral and I just helped bring a boat from Louisiana to Florida. The first 36 hours she was laid out by "Mal de Mer". She told me after that that we were not doing any bluewater crossings on our boat.

BUT

The boat we moved to Florida? Well, in December, they are planning to go to Guatemala for a couple of years. And the Admiral wants to crew on that trip, also. This from a woman who won't go swimming in the ocean because "There are things in there that can EAT YOU!!!!". She only took up sailing because my daysailer was so neglected when we got together. :)

But right this minute, we are a thousand miles from our boat. Riding motorcycles in northern Georgia looking at the all the beautiful leaves. Which is a sport she introduced to me.

Foul Weather Friends

My "Admiral", also prefers to be called First Mate, although she refers to herself as Chief Cook and Bottlewasher! I was strongly advised several years ago by a sailing friend to never let her go, after he found out that she had helped me prep the boat for bottom paint and actually taken a day when I was at work to go up and put a second coat on. She's definitely a keeper, and after 27 years, I'm certain I couldn't do better. Hell, she puts up with me.

It was actually her idea 27 years ago, about 6 months after being married, to buy our first boat. She had sailed with me the summer before on my uncle's Hobie 16. Now, a few boats later (and bigger), the plan is retire on the boat once we get the kids through school, although I think we'll be upsizing at least one more time.

The pic below is from a trip on Lake Michigan when the weather could have been better, but it obviously didn't discourage either of us!

By the looks of your sailing gear... you broke the code...

"Never let her be cold or wet on the boat!"

Oooooops!

I do believe I have broken that rule several times - among many others.

Awesome Admirals are tolerant and forgiving (unlike Admiral Halsey).

Lucky us.
