Awesome Admiral's

Seems most posters around here are male - along with other sailing related sites I frequent. I've always appreciated how fortunate to have an Admiral that not only looks really good but is all in on the sailing thing.

Last weekend we were out for 3 days in winds 15-30 knots the entire time (not the best Admiral weather). On Sunday morning I was feeling a little under the weather and we decided to recover the boat a little earlier than usual. After beating to the dock and and the usual high wind recovery drama - dasbOOt was on the trailer in the lot waiting for de-rig. I was nauseous so after throwing up a couple of times the Admiral told me to go lay down in the truck for a while - which I reluctantly did.

After a while I got my lazy butt up to derig and got out of the truck just in time to see the Admiral coming around with the 90 lb. outboard in her arms heading for the truck bed. Wow.

I found that she had rigged the gin pole system, baby stays, harness's, got the mast down (in 25 mph gusty rain/wind), keel lowered, and motor off. If our darn tabernacle wasn't so bendy she would have gotten the mast bolt out and had the mast in travel position. I was stunned. 10 minutes later we were on the road.

She didn't think it was that big a deal but for some reason I do.

Tell me your awesome Admiral story please.

My 'admiral' is my willing and capable partner in everything we do sailing. Fully 1/2 of the great and awesome things we have done on a sailboat are because of her. We're a team in the full meaning of the word.

Driving downwind in 25 knots of breeze on a Pogo 12.50 sportboat. Aegean sea in the winter. Her idea of a perfect vacation.

hello all

my admiral I chased to china and brought her back to me.... she is wonderful... there are no sailboats in china where she is from.... she told me before we were married, she wanted to learn sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, and lots more... she spends all her time with me in the boat, wether we are sailing or I am working on it... sometimes I cannot get into the tight little spots to do something.... she dives right in and squeezes in there to get the job done.... every time we go out on the small keel boat in the driveway, she starts cleaning it... she does everything on the boat when we are sailing... her favorite place is laying in the cockpit, sleeping next to me, while I sail on... she and I have the little keel boat launch ready in 20 minutes stepping the mast and rigging it...

sincerely
Jess

I dare not call her "Admiral". Even though it is a term of endearment, I still prefer just call her by her name, "Young".

Sue is no Admiral ...

but soon-to-be granny ... her oldest son is about to make her very excited! She doesn't make me think of the grannies I remember in my youth!

She is more of a skier than a sailor, though.

My awesome admiral. My beautiful wife. She is also a wonderful mother, grand and great grandmother. This photo was taken by our granddaughter while day sailing with her and our great granddaughter. (Also our dog, Annie)

We are extremely fortunate, guys, aren't we? :):):)

Indeed we are.

My brother-in-law has owned an S2 7.0 at Duluth for 6 years now.
His Admiral isn't all in and his boat very rarely ever sees the water.

It's heartbreaking.

Nicely stated guys.

This kinda puts the kibosh on women being "Too Fragile" to hang with the boys.
And, look at all the brownie points y'all scored.

ps: Scott, I liked the pic with your doggie.

Here's an idea for the Ladies.

Maybe there should be a forum titled, "For Ladies Only" or something like "Women sailors Only". An all-woman forum where guys can only read but, not post. If enough ladies ask, maybe Phil Herring will see this.......

I am INCREDIBLY LUCKY to have been brought into the sailing community by my "Admiral", she was the one that grew up sailing small boats on lakes and rivers, and learning from seasoned sailors.

I love this attached image, she had the speaking role at our re-naming ceremony, I had the HORRIBLE duty of pouring champagne into the sea to appease assorted Gods,,,
if you look at the upper left corner of this picture, you will see a large flock of birds, as if on cue, flying over our ceremony!

cheers,
Coyote

Too easy to creep on with a false 'sock puppet' identity.

There is a VERY popular group on Facebook called 'woman who sail'. Much harder to spoof on FB because you have to have a real public identity, and they look you over before they let you in. Posting, sharing, or commenting by men STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Pia loves it.

The admiral, getting used to the helm. She has almost mastered the outboard's deployment.

Hopefully, she'll be as proficient as topcat's CO, someday. A 90# outboard, and handling the mast drop? Kudos to her.

Oh, and her minions. Kinda like admirals.

They keep us fairly close to shore, for now.

Jackdaw,

I only have one question, why do you Go There man?

"Creep on with a false 'sock puppet' identity........Really man, that's your response?

So obviously, this is NOT where the rest of us go.
I just don't get your newfound negative responses man. To me, I am seeing this, by-your attitude in multiple threads now. I just don't get it, this is not the Jack I know.

There is NO such thing as a dumb question, only a dumb answer. Get back on course dude. Sailing in Wisconsin, this may be different compared to other area sailors.

Lately, it seems you rather point out more the bad rather than,...............the good.
My only question is.....WHY? What can one gain from this? Jack, add input & advice, don't attack others' thoughts. That being said, add pluses not minuses. ya can't speak for others?

PM me if you wish & we can talk.......

Ron,

Sorry maybe I didn't make my point clear enough. I'm involved in business of the web and social media. Many on-line forums, and in particular sailing forums, have tried to create a safe place for woman to express their views... often this means keeping men out, who always want to jump in and be heard. And knowing that it is women only, they feel safer to express themselves.

In forums where there is total anonymity (like here), you can create a profile (known in the business as a 'sock puppet') and be anyone you want to be. A woman? It only takes a few people (men in this case) barging in and it ruins it. It happens. Maybe it would not here, but who knows???

My only point is that a perfect forum already exists, in a on-line community that is open any people will KNOW your are female. Why attempt to recreate that? I didn't want to appear negative at all.
