4 years in Annapolis, 20+ years commissioned service in U.S. Navy as a ship driver (black shoe). Two WESTPAC deployments on a CGN, one STANAVFORLANT deployment, one deployment to Persian Gulf. Commissioning Combat Systems Officer for an Aegis cruiser. CO of a minesweeper. XO of a Knox class frigate. 5+ years on exchange with the Royal Navy. 3 years teaching in Annapolis. 16 more years working on a fielded weapon system (4 yrs contractor, remainder civil service) - currently Chief Engineer for the program. Total of 40+ years to date associated with the defense of our great Nation.

U.S. Navy, 1968-1972 TD, a rate that does not exist any more.. Training Device. We did the flight simulators.. instruction and maintenance. Memphis, Tn for school then Beeville, Tx for duty with the jet training squadrons.. The base is closed now and has been turned into a prison. I got to third class petty officer, the highest one could go without signing up for more time.

I was thinking we just did this, but it was 2009 and 2010. I stuck the post from Nov. 11 and left it up for a while and then brought it back the following year as a trubute to those that served.

Yes, I thought this was done recently, but as you noted, it's been a couple years now since the last one...so here goes.

2 Carribean runs

A family of Sailors:
Uncle was an Navy electrician (EM) on surface craft in WWII, Pacific theatre, 4 yrs
Dad was a Navy "Sea Bee" (DM), Korean War, 2 yrs
1st brother a Submarine Navy Nuke (MMCM SS), 21 yrs
2nd brother Navy airdale that never saw a day at sea ! (AT2), 4 yrs
3rd brother Navy on the USS "Forrest Fire" Forrestal and the Guadalcanal (MS3) 4 yrs

All 4 brothers were in the service for a short overlapping time.

4 years Annapolis (Class of 1973), 7 1/2 years Nuclear Submarines (Engineer Officer on SSBN and Squadron Ops Officer SUBRON 18 Charleston SC. Went USN Reserve as Engineering Duty Officer (EDO). Retired as Captain from USNR.

7 years in USN active duty (1967 to 1974), then 6 years USN reserve. AMH 1.

Did 2 Westpack cruises in Okinawa and Cubi Point/Subic bay Philippines, Viet Nam, Diego Garcia, Utapao Thailand, Bandar Abbas Iran, and a few other garden spots, doing ASW and other.

A smart salute to all the other vets and active duty!!!!

It always makes me a little uncomfortable when people thank me. I didn't earn it. My outfit was the undisputed armpit of the US armed forces. We didn't do anything high speed or hard core ... aside from imbibery and debauchery. We took those two things pretty seriously, though.
