1990 Hunter 30 2gm20f propeller question

what is your wide open throttle RPMS..can you hit 35 to 3600 rpms....if not you may be propped to aggressive.....

Before doing anything you need to ascertain that the tachometer reading is accurate and that your speed reading is indicative of pure boat speed "over the water". (no GPS). Once you can say for sure that there is a problem with low RPM then you can start diagnosing the engine and drive train. Throtling up the engine in neutral and seeing if the RPM remain low or go to normal can provide a starting point of what to check and what to eliminate. The diagnostic process is a little more involved than what I could cover here. To answer your question Hunter basically delivers its boats with two blade props but not all two blades are the same as they can vary in diameter and pitch to match different engines and boats. Is it possible that a PO improperly replaced the prop? Yes it is possible but not likely. Engine running condition and whether it is smoking or not can provide a wealth of clues. The most basic thing that you could do is verify that the throttle linkage has full travel.

There are prop calculation formulas on the net or you can contact a prop company like Michigan wheel/propeller and have them figure it for you

I switch the factory 2 blade prop for a 3 bladed max prop for my 30' hunter.... Huge improvement. 2700 rpm is usually around 6kts, can push it close to 7 if I have to max it out. Of course wind, waves, etc all play factors.

i dont think your prop is slipping on the shaft if you can get 5.5 knots at 2700 rpms

as far as size my 30 ft boat takes a 15d....11p...Rh and i have a 2gm20f just like you do my boat weight is 9800 lbs and has a 5 foot draft
