Low Hot Water Pressure

I have a 2007 H-36 with the Hot water is way too low in all the Hot water faucets only and cold water is fine no problem with water pressure.
I am thinking it must be the Hot water Heater is the problem and some kind of restriction I guess and has electric heating in the water heater.
Does anyone know what or how to fix the problem before my wife
goes crazy on me and can make her happy again when showing and at the galley sink too.

I would check the hot water line from the tank. I would think that there is some sort of a kink in the line. You can easily disconnect the line at each fixture but if it is at each fixture that is probably not the issue.

Seadaddler, I assume you mean the pressure is too low, not the temp. If the pressure is low, check the manifold under the sink and make sure the hot water in valve is all the way open. If it is, then you've got a blockage somewhere.
If it's the temp and you only have the issue under electric heat, take off the small cover on the front of the heater and adjust the thermostat

Very hot

The Hot water is very hot all the time but the water pressure is very low and not much force and the water is not proper for showing for sure.
I will check manifold and try checking for blockage some place in the hot waterlines.

I am not that familiar with your generation Hunter. However, my current and prior ones both had water heaters with aluminum boilers. After time, you get aluminum deposits within your faucet screens... not what you describe. However, that leads me to wonder if you have a filter or screen somewhere after the heater output? Just a shot in the dark. Good luck.

Some questions & thoughts...

Does the water heater have a thermostatic mixing valve? Some have screens to protect the element.

Does the water heater have a check valve? If it does be sure the cold supply and hot return are plumbed correctly through the check valve.

Check all hoses / plumbing for kinks/bends. If no mixing valve this is especially true on the hot supply as the water temps can soften the hose and it can kink or deform...

I agree. I just replaced both my hot water heater and the hoses. You need to crawl around and find out where the blockage is. Old hoses can kink and stop or reduce flow. My hot water heater was indicating signs of leaking and bad insulation and the hot water pump started running incessantly. Two bad things happened at the same time, but had different symptoms. Like a doctor, "once I was IN THERE," I chose to fix two different problems at the same time.

In your case, it sounds more like a kinked hot water hose, somewhere.

Good luck.

good thoughts, Rick and Mainesail, but he should have a screen filter on the coldwater input only...no thermostatic mixing valve, just a std water heater element and thermostat setup. A kink is a likely cause - but in the lines to or from the heater since it affects all of his hot water outlets.

Seadaddler, did the problem start after you stored something near the heater? I used to store my spare oil and AF around the heater - something could shift and hit a hose. ditto for under the galley sink near the manifold

Nick -

I have a 2007 H36 and had the exact same issue In the spring.

The culprit was the thermostatic mixing valve. Some crud had accumulated on the input screens for it - I disassembled the connections to it (didn't take the valve guts apart !) - there were fine metal mesh screens that had crud on them.......cleaned screens, put it back together, and presto - lots of hot water flow again.

Hope this helps you!

Thank You

Thank you so much and will do the same thing as you did RKFK.
I love this forum and now can not go crazy trying all different things
who knows what I would have tried.
I will try today and let everyone know how I make out.

Good News

:dance: All good news just took 15 minutes looking for right size wrench and took 2 screens out with the input screen not too bad all but the Hot water out of the mix value was:eek: clogged real bad and surprised we even let any water out.
I guess every year I will check and clean them to our list and also this way the screens will hopefully last before needing replacing and it is a like a garden hose washer with a screen and so easy to do with ajust able pliers
and not more than total 15 minutes.
Thanks again from me and my wife:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:.

That's great news Nick ! Glad I was able to help.

I also think these forums are fantastic - it can really help a lot when a similar boat/year/model has the same problems and people share their fix successes and failures.

Thanks Again

I did not know about the screens but had I looked in my water heater
manual I would have seen that they tell you about it and checking and cleaning the screens.
My hot water starting the problem last year in May and than forgot all about it and went north on vacation with out boat and forgot all about it,but thanks for saving me so much work pulling things apart.
It was a easy fix maybe 15 minutes and yes I always trying reading any and all info on this forum to here and learn helpful things related to our boating
and our Hunters so great this forum and I tell every one even if not a Hunter owner.

Where is this thermostatic valve to check for low hot water pressure?

I have plenty of pressure with cold water but the hot water hardly comes out at all. I have followed the lines and no kinks. Any suggestions?

Mixer

My mixer value is mounted on the inlet of the water heater and if I remember
screens are on inlet for water.

Well timing is everything and this thread came at just the right time. Yesterday I was flushing and filling the water system for the season and had the same low flow from the hot water side. Cold is fine at all faucets. I determined that cold feed to the water heater is fine too. However I do have a question and could use some help. In looking at the skimpy manual that came with the water heater I see there are two types shown. One with a TCV and one without. I have the model without. But what I do have is a mixing valve that is on the hot water outlet side of the water heater. It has an adjustment knob and blends cold water into the hot discharge before distribution to the faucets. In my diagnosing I think the problem is in this mixing valve since I have good flows everywhere else. So my question is this. Does anyone have this set up and if so have you disassembled the mixing valve to clean it? And of course the follow on question - does anyone have a schematic of what this thing looks like and how it comes apart for cleaning? I'm not afraid to go exploring but I sure feel better if I have a schematic or pictures to know what to expect in the way of parts and pieces. And just which of those parts and pieces I need to take apart and which to leave alone. Thanks in advance.

can you tell the manufacture of the valve if so google it and see if there is a diagram for that

Good suggestion. That will be next step when I can get back to the boat. I had thought at first that it was part of the Force 10 water heater but as I've been digging it now appears that it's not and may be from another manufacturer.
