As I will be getting my boat into the water after a few years of being deployed to Japan I will be:

Installing Jacklines to keep my kids (3 and 6) inside the boat.

Raw water strainer service and intake inspection.

Running/standing rigging inspection and mast stepping (with new mast base plate).

OK...that was really about 5 projects......sorry!

WELCOME HOME!

Just completed replacing all four lifelines with uncoated SS wire and suncor terminals ($ 556.00 at Defender)

Sent back the Dometic fridge/freezer ($ 600.00 at Defender) that did not fit the carefully prepared space I created for it and picked up a Yeti cooler ($ 350.00 at Cabella's) that fits in the space. : )

Completed installing new hull liner throughout the "main salon." ($ 240.00 at Sailrite).

Completed refinishing all teak on the outside of the boat ($ 25.00 in Epinanes finish from Defender).

Puchased an absolutely wonderful Cobb charcoal grill ($ 85.00 on clearance at Camping World) to replace the $ 250 Magma that was blown overboard. This grill was discussed in Crusing World last year and I have been unable to find a US distributor...Camping World...who knew?

New hammock for the boat ($ 40.00 on clearance at Defender)

Now...new fenders, air horn, and some other incidentials.

Sadly, I simply waste the rest of what little money I have.

Well, this question is easy when you have Maine Sail writing for this web site. I've already have replaced the Shore Power system with the Smart Cord and Plug and today I think I will have finished the Battery monitor system that he showed us.

I'm just waiting for his next project for number three.

Welcome back!

Really think before putting your kids in jacklines. Jacklines are for adult crew in challenging conditions. If kids fall overboard in regular conditions, they will likely drown due to being dragged thru the water before you get to them. In that case, just floating off the transom in a PFD would be better.

You COULD consider a very short tether to a fixed point, where there is no chance of them going over.

Yes, Welcome Back.
My main spring projects were: Install of battery switch and wiring, deck organizer and rope clutch to run main halyard and reef lines to cockpit and new winches. The winches were not planned but when doing maintenance to the old ones found they both had terminal issues.

Maybe instead of jack lines how about netting on the lifelines? I have seen that recommended to keep young ones from slipping under the lines. If we had young ones our cardinal rule would be they stay in the cockpit or cabin when moving. Any deck would be off limits.
In fact that is going to be our plan if we allow our golden retriever on board. Still undecided on that.

I plan to go with netting as well. I'll be keeping my tethers short on the kid's harnesses so if they go over they won't touch the water...plus I'll be running the jacklines inboard of the handrails.
