A few quick questions for anyone who can answer;
1. Is there a routine maintenance for my bow thruster other than a good cleaning and checking the electrical wiring and battery?
2. How frequently should I clean and lube the upper bearing on my main roller furling - the lower bearings on the drum are easy to get to; the upper requires lowering the sail.
3. Anyone ever use a sail lube on the luft of the head sail?

Thanks - I may have more if I can ever get to the boat due to snow!

On the thruster you'll want to check the anode. Make sure the prop is clean and the thruster tunnel had anti fouling

Not sure on Q2 since I've got a classic main on my B42.

Sail lube on the luff? Not sure why you'd want to so that. A while back one of the big lofts was advocating spraying sails with a coating to minimize dirt pickup. That sounded like the special coating new car dealers would try to sell you when you buy a new car.

Wouldn't the answer to #2 be based on what furler you have on your boat?

My ProFurl requires NO lubrication and if it is lubricated, with ANYTHING, it will NOT work properly.

Exactly, my Profurl manual says, fresh-water rinse the drum and bearings only. 12 years and rolling on!

Guys. Its his MAINSAIL furler; in mast. Selden recommends annual lubrication.

Oh, one of those new-fangled thing-a-ma-bobs? I know nothing about them! I did watch a fellow drop his partially furled sail with a box cutter though. :) That was painful.

I carry a box cutter for that very reason. Haven't needed it thus far. I clean bearings with soap and water, blow dry and mclube them. I'll relube through the year by pulling the sail out by hand and spray with Mclube while rolling it up by hand.

Rather than cut the sail, untie the outhaul and wrap the sail around the mast. It is difficult and the sail gets bunched up and messy but, it then allow you to motor into a yard or slip for a more orderly repair of the problem.
