Oday Day Sailer II Lake Lewisville
Sadly, my mast and boom was stolen from my 1972 Oday Day Sailer II 18 foot. I love this boat, and want to replace these items. Note: I am a novice. I am in Dallas TX.
A repair person, The Barefoot Sailer, estimated a repair and took a deposit, but then I never heard from him again.

I need a replacement mast/boom and a quality person to help me get it installed.

The mast measurement from the estimate:
DM 284 (2 7/8 x 2 1/8 ) 23’ section
17 x 23

The boom measurement from the estimate:
DM 275 Boom 11’ section

Here is the rest of the items in the estimate:
DM 284 (2 7/8 x 2 1/8 ) 23’ section
DH 1012 masthead
DH 70 tang (3)
DH 2112 HP step and hinge
Gate (milled out)
Dh 2510 spreader ½” x 24”
Spreader bracket
Halyard cleat (3)
Halyard block & Eye strap
¼” halyard main (46’ )
¼” halyard jib (30”)
Shrouds, upper (2) forestay (1)
DM 275 Boom 11’ section
DH 355-1L Gooseneck slide and end cap
DH 6560 End cap
Dh 312 bail (3)
Outhaul cleat
Misc fasteners, #10 MS, 3/16” rivets

Thanks for your help,
Geoff

I believe the mast is still available from: DAMCO - Dwyer Aluminum Mast Company.

shipping will be a bummer. You, or someone you choose, may have to actually "build it", but extrusion and parts are all available.

Now that I look back at your post - that is what the DM stands for - Dwyer Mast.

YOU can do this.

Check eBay there are a few mast usually listed in your area. When I was looking it seemed like they were all in either Texas or Florida. With Katrina there are probably tons of spare parts.
Craigslist is also helpful.

For reference, here is the DWYER drawing for the DS II mast (PDF format). This drawing as well as the boom drawing are included in the DS II Owners Manual that I created. Day Sailer and Javelin both used same boom, if that helps.
Also, it might be worth checking the Day Sailer Class association web site www.daysailer.org since sometimes owners part out damaged boats, or a class racer might be upgrading their mast and they always talk about helping out "newbies".

My boom drawing shows the bail positioned for the mid-boom mainsheet, I realize that your 1972 model may still have the original "Crosby" mainsheet setup, but the other dimensions will be the same.

Sorry to hear your mast was stolen. I checked the gear for sale option on this site and didn't see anything. You can post a gear-wanted ad. I would also check out the sailingtexas.com website and you can post a gear-wanted ad there as well. Craigslist is always an option with the usual caveats about buyer beware.

Were you insured? When they stole mine the rigging was all attached. To replace it with new you are looking at about $4k I was Lucy enough to find one from a recycled C27.

Sorry to hear about the mast & boom. D&R Marine sells all the parts that you need for the Day Sailer http://www.drmarine.com/products.asp?cat=123 . Where in the Dallas area are you? I live just west of Austin. I'll be in Richardson at the end of the month for my dad's birthday. I have a 1976 Day Sailer II that I sail. Be glad to get together with you and talk about your boat. When I lived in Richardson I sailed Lake Lewisville, but it was called Garza-Little Elm back then.

Looking at the D&R site it shows a complete mast with rigging for $920 and a complete boom for $350 + shipping. Shipping masts can be pricey.

You might be able to find a Hobie 16 or 18 rig locally and make that work.
One of those full roach and full batten sails should boost your speed pretty well. if you can make a pivot, the rotating mast would also help.

I forgot to mention that there is also a Day Sailer fleet in Arlington, Tx. They might be able to help you also.

I dunno about that. Hobie 16 masts are heavy, heavier than for my 192, and much heavier than for my 15' Harpoon. I can't imagine a boat like a Daysailer having a Hobie rig. Also, remember a Hobie has huge form stability from two hulls to carry more sail area. That's why cats and tris can be so fast.

Gotcha, been a long time since I helped rig a Hobie and I seemed to be in a lot better condition back then!
