One SOUR
Two SWEET
Three STRONG
Four WEAK

A take away from the Blasters you get at Pete's Pub, Little Harbour, Abaco's

One cup of lime juice, two cups of simple syrup, three cups of Cruzan Aged Rum and four cups of fruit juice. Normally two cups of pineapple juice and two of orange juice. Finish it off with a large dash of bitters and a slice or orange floating on the top. The admiral keeps telling me it's too strong, but our guests never complain and keep coming back for more.
We arrived early one day at Pete's while they were making the blasters. Got the first one's of the day and they were almost pure rum. I don't think they stirred them up! Talk about getting blasted - WOW. I'm sure this place was Jimmy Buffet's inspiration for the 12 volt man of song. At night they would take jumper cables to 12 volt batteries to light up the bar.

This summer and last - Barritt's ginger beer and Goslings for the perfect dark & stormy.

Before that, painless pain killers - in a blender 1 can of cream of coconut, top off with orange/pineapple juice - blend and pour over Pusser's and 1 ice cube in a glass. Forget the nutmeg. No measuring is a good thing after a couple of rounds. :D

In a pinch dark rum and coke with a squeeze of fresh lime always works, so does a Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.

The wife is dropping hints about a Hendricks drink for next summer. Something to ponder over the winter...

Here are a couple of the drinks we serve on Smitty.

The official boat drink is the Dark n' Stormy. Nothing new with the recipe but there is a key to how you make it. You pour the ginger beer over ice and then add the Gossling's Rum. You don't stir the drink before serving it. This creates a storm cloud look in the glass. Hence, Dark n' Stormy.

Next drink is the Dirty Mojito. We have a mint plant on board for just such an occasion. So it's fresh mint (slapped not muttled) with muttled lime. Add ice, Capt. Morgan Black, seltzer and Sugar In the Raw liquid sugar (instead of simply syrup).

Then there is the Painkiller. Favorite of the BVI and we learned how to make them from the bar tender at the Soggy Dollar Bar in White Bay on Jost Van Dike. Pusser's Rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and cream de coconut. I like pretty close to even parts of each but play around with the portions to see what you like. We make it in pictures. Perfect for morning dinghy raft ups. Serve over ice with some fresh nutmeg on the top.

This year I started playing around with Bloody Maries. I have my own recipe but it's not ready for prime time yet.

Nice Jim ...

In a pinch dark rum and coke with a squeeze of fresh lime always works, so does a Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy.
Jim, I'm with you regarding the Summer Shandy. I keep the full compliment of Leinie's in my fridge at home. I particularly like Hoppin Helles now, and always Red Lager as well. In fact, I no longer buy any beer other than the various brews from the Leinie Lodge! I think I like it so much because Leinenkugel brings back the memories of summer vacations in the north woods of Wisconsin, with the adults drinking Leinies at the bar while us kids plugged the jukebox with dimes and played a shuffle board type game on a long table with sliding pucks (can't remember the name).

I kept the ice box on the boat full of ice and Summer Shandy ALL SUMMER LONG. I often stopped at the boat on my way home from work just to sit in the sun and knock back a Shandy before making it home for dinner. I need to refresh the ice just about every 3 days in the heat of summer so it's a good enough reason to stop at the deli for ice and then on to the boat for a beer. Sue works out at the gym, so our timing usually works out just about right!

I have to admit that I like Malibu Rum, and I found that I like it with Regatta ginger beer. I prefer beverages from a glass bottle rather than a can, so I buy the Regatta ginger beer rather than Goslings (found only in a can by me). Is there a difference?

Margatini

Ingredients:
Tito's Vodka
Jalapeno-stuffed olives and olive juice
Limeaide
Ice

Mix vodka and limeaide at a ratio of somewhere between 3:2 and 4:2. Remember this is a martini, not a mixed drink, so it should be mixed stiff for the name to be technically correct!

Add a tiny amount of the olive juice to add a salty, (margarita) component, but not as much as a dirtry martini. Don't let the olive juice run over the limeaide!

Shake, then serve strained either into a martini glass or over rocks with a couple of the jalapeno-stuffed olives skewered.

My brother-in-law prefers them in a salt-rimmed glass, but then again he is a landlubber. Forget the salt if you are on the boat; it is messy.

Virgin Islands Black Daquiri

This one is easy. It is also quite sweet but not in a candy sort of way.... The Black Strap rum has a heavy molasses tone to it with a nice caramel note that is just a little charred around the edges; smokey if you will.

Cruzan Black Strap Rum
Limeaide
Ice

Mix rum and limeaide at roughly equal portions, or lean towards more limeaid at a ratio of three or four parts limeaid to two parts rum for a smoother cocktail you can have a few more of...

Serve over rocks in a tumbler. Cocktail umbrella is strictly optional.

The folks from Hendrick's Gin set up shop at the Annapolis boat show in 2012 and were mixing some odd cocktails. A remarkable gin and a very clean martini - the cucumber martini.

2½ parts Hendrick's Gin
½ part dry vermouth
cucumber slice

''The Dirty Racor''

Signature drink is the Dark n Stormy. Goslings rum and ginger beer with a squeeze of lime.

End of the evening and end of a trip is single malt scotch. Lagavulin or Glenlivet 18
After reading your latest blog entry, and remembering my own experience, I propose this drink, as a rite of passage, for all of us who have had the engine sputter and die the first time.

Mixings for a dark and stormy, ice on the bottom,2 cubes, cut a circle of cheesecloth and place betwwen the ingedients.
Serve 3 minutes after making to ensure there is some ''water'' in the ''system''.

Cheers

We were on St. Thomas, VI. They make a drink on mountain top. Banana flavored rum, Banana, ice, blend and lace with 151. Float like butterfly, sting like bee.
Also many years ago on Catalina, Vitamin C. Orange juice and white rhine wine. split a pitcher, couldn't get out of the chair.

I never eat fruit cake, cause it contains rum
and one little bite turns a man to a bum
oh can you imagine the terrible strife
of a man eating fruit cake until he gets tight?

Discovered the Dark n Stormy about a year ago and loved it. Sometimes if I'm not in the mood for all the sweetness, I cut the ginger beer with equal part tonic. I call it a Partly Cloudy.
Love it! Very clever :)
