Angles through line organizers

I'm about to install some line organizers on my deck and am working with some time spacing. Are there any rules of thumb or mins/maxs regarding the angle of the line entering the line organizer and exiting back to the cockpit?

The line will follow the curve of the sheeve in the organizer as long as the line does not rub anywhere.

Yes. Load on the block is a function of the turning angle. Loads get high FAST.

Thanks, Jackdaw. I suspected as much. So the object of the game is to minimize the angle!

Jackdaw got it right. Minimizing the angle will reduce the load that the turning block will see. It's not necessary to decrease the angle but just be aware that the loads will increase so select your hardware accordingly. Hardware manufacturer's will specify a safe working load for their products. Use that as a guide when calculating loads.

I think the key is to get the blocks at the base of the mast low enough to minimize the rubbing from a bad angle. These deck organizers are oriented for horizontal loading and any line that comes down at an angle from the mast is going to lose efficiency due to friction.

No, that is the load on the block itself (bearings, mount, etc.) - the load on the line doesn't change appreciably. Look at the case of the 180 degree turn - with 100 lbs tension on the line, there are TWO 100 lb pulls on the block - one to the puller and one to the pullee :) - and this adds up to 200 lb of load on the block.

That's correct. Now there IS an increase in work load due to friction, and that's a function of the block design. Good harken/lewmar/etc blocks with a large diameter race will be much lower then a cheap one with a simple SS pin bearing. Sadly thats how many deck organizers are made. In any case minimizing the turns, while respecting good organization and fair leads is key.
