Been too foggy for sextants, astrolabs and codspiece navigation this week, but I have complete faith in your ability to navigate to Mission Bay minimally equipped as you are Brian.

Brian and others, if for some reason your GPS or bank of GPS devices ceased to function would you cancel the cruise?

Absolutely not. I keep myself well versed in navigation for that reason. But if something makes your trip safer, why not have it.

Good point about sextants and fog. While we are "known" for fog here in SF, my experience is that San Diego and, for that matter, the entire Southern California coast has much, much worse fog than we do. Our fog comes in three day increments, comes & goes. In So Cal it's called "June Gloom" and lasts for lots longer periods. Both of us skippers, N & S, can get out of sight of land in a day, beyond the fog bank? Not so much...

We get ourselves thru June with the thought "It may be foggy, but at least it ain't San Francisco foggy"
Probably more persistent and less predictable down here, still better to have a fog season than a hurricane season I think.
Also, portlight screens (bugs), Air conditioning and heaters are rarieties on boats in Calif., that's got to count for something.
