Anyone know why zincs have that little copper(?) bronze(?) ball embedded in the interior of each section?

Stuffing Box/Zincs

Dennis, good questions regarding both the stuffing box and the copper portion of the zinc (maybe it is just a rivet to hold it together). In any case I don't have the answer to either. None the less I want you to know that someone is hearing you. Recently I posed a query about replacement winches for a 272LE and was disappointed when there was no response. Hope we both find your answers.

better contact

I believe that the copper helps to make a better contact with the shaft or metal surface to which the zink is being attached so that you have a better transfer of the electrical flow to the zink.
