I need to replace the zinc on my prop shaft but didn't get around too it before the water cooled off. This past weekend I bolted an aluminum plate onto a copper wire and added a prop shaft Zinc for good measure. Using my handheld voltmeter I read a voltage of 0.2V between the copper wire and the backstay. Everything is bonded so the zinc should protect everything. But I was surprised by the voltage. Is this high low or about right???? I was hooked up to shore power at the time. Hopefully the weekend after christmas I'll get fired up enough to put on my scuba gear and repalce the zinc on the propshaft. I admit it takes more motivation than I have had lately to put on the full wetsuit and get into the cold dirty water. This is on a lake tied to a dock.

sounds like you may have invented a new battery type. Not sure but I presume you are in fresh water? If so, trash the zinc and use either Al or magnesium but don't combine any of them. Then check the resistance between the anode in the water and backstay (or more importantly the prop shaft which si where the stuff is you are trying to protect) to ensure there is good continuity. Don't worry about the voltage as measurement with a VOM is misleading.
