Found these things out the hard way after many hours of diagnosis and finally engine rebuild still had loss of power when engaging drive ! Rebuilt engine while in boat, finally a new head solved the problem old head the water jacket had rusted through and $500 later fixed that problem BUT PRODUCED A NEW SCARY problem engine would suddenly runaway with me and just before pulling head back off again to check and see if the rings had somehow lined up gaps I read in a post that if the baffle plate that covers connecting rod cover was put in upside down this would cause the ysm8 to run away pulled the started and 6 bolts turned plate 180% and problem solved!
