Lee, I just completed a rebuild of my YSM12 over the winter. The cost was roughly $1500. in parts and some labour. The up side is being able to do the majority of the mechanical work yourself. I replaced or had rebuild everything under the sun(and I mean everything..... valves, piston, cylinder sleeve, fuel delivery system etc, etc, etc. I figured if the engine lasted 27 years it should do another bunch and there won't be that taunting thought at the back of my mind as to what will fail next....everything is new!!!

Did the same

Rick - I did the same thing in my Catalina 30 - rebuilt a YSM12. She runs great and it was not that bad to do. I figure a replacement would have many hidden costs and boat alterations aside from the the initial upfront planning. It went somooth for me except for an oil breather plate my mechanic installed backwards...I checked w. mac boring and they said it was a common mistake. It caused a problem of runaway and oil burning....the fix was simple and I have not any any issues since! 3 years later and cranks right over! Rob
